It needs a twist.
At this point, a kick-ass zombie film (unless its REALLY good) isn't going to launch anybody to stardom. I wish your friends the best, but the movie looks like a standard zombie-fest so unless they're dynamite with actors, I think they may need another very indy movie that brings in some new angles on cinema if they want to get hollywoodized.
I suppose... But then I don't think any of us is in this so that we can be launched to 'stardom' as you put it. Don't get me wrong, if Stephen Spielberg called me up to be in his film I'd be stoked, but all of us is in this business because we love what we do.
I suppose I should have elaborated beyond 'kick-ass zombie film' as I am over simplifying. The film isn't just about a bunch of guys killing zombies. Over all the story focuses more on the characters who are trying to 'survive in a world gone mad' using Zombies as a back drop. Each person has their own back story, and set of circumstances that eventually brings them together. So I guess you're right, in that a bunch of cool stuff does not a good film make. But personally I thought the script was really solid, mostly in that the were interesting, it never took itself too seriously, but wasn't dumb, at times made fun of the genre, and (most importantly) was fun.
But at the end of the day the lot of us made this simply because we wanted to be involved in the making of a film. And we're all believers in networking and self creation. I (and the rest of the actors involved) love to act, the guys who made the film love to make films... Making millions of dollars one day would be nice... stardom/celebrity, should it ever come, is something I'm not really interested in.
I'm more than aware that this film may very well NOT 'make' our carreers or anything like that, but I sure as hell had fun doing it all the same.
But I do see what you're saying, and obviously this is their first stab at it. So it'll be interesting to see what they do next.
