    Happy Halloween, Guest!

Eddie Murphy--Beverly Hills Cop 4

They were better off doing a spin off TV show with his son.

I mean, if he's not gonna do it now, he's never gonna do it. It's been way too long.

Apparently the pilot sucked and reaction was only positive to Eddie Murphy's cameo which is why they went back to wanting to do a fourth film.

YEah this isn't going to happen.

It's funny that Murphy is so insistent on having a good script when you can count the good live action films he's done in the last 20 years on 1 hand

hmmm....

Would Eddie Murphy be too much of a distraction for Marvel Studios? Or Quentin Tarantino? Or Lucasfilm?

Just leave this franchise be. It doesn't need a sequel or a reboot. It's done. They should have left it at 2.

Tsrantino is a career reviver. I'd love to see Eddie Murphy star in one of his films.

Murphy should have an Oscar right now, but Norbit f***ed all of that up.

He was doomed years before Norbit, with The Adventures of Pluto Nash. In fact, if you look at the timeline of Murphy's career the majority of projects prior to Pluto Nash are all reasonably popular. After Pluto Nash, there's an instantaneous (and enormous) drop in love toward almost every live-action project he's in. Not that it was necessarily Murphy's fault, but Pluto Nash is notorious for being one of the biggest "box office flops of all time" -being the face of the film, I doubt Murphy was the first on anyone's casting list after that debacle.

It's hard for comedians who are extremely popular in their comedic roles to actually win the Oscar. Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, Michael Keaton. Hell, Jim Carrey didn't even get a nomination for Truman Show. Robin Williams might be the sole exception.

You're right. His career never recovered. However, I always felt he was riding the momentum at that time. He won the Golden Globe too. And everyone loves a comeback story.

Ugh, don't get me started on Keaton. How does Birdman win Best Picture without him winning Best Actor? He was the entire film. That was one of the biggest snubs of all-time.

Here is a great article on how Eddie Murphy made Axel Foley his defining role in the original film. The good point about the article is that Axel, as much as he be a pain in the butt to the other characters, he always shows a level of respect too. Also, he accepts people for who they are, especially with Serge. I can see other movies going low-brow if they had a Serge-esq character, being the butt of the joke, but the movie and Axel Foley embraced him instead.

Unlike a comic book or novel adaptation, Beverly Hills Cop was designed for the big screen, and it'll be hard to replace Eddie if there was ever a reboot.

The second one was weird because it had the Hangover 2 syndrome that Hollywood never learns from. There were too many 'remember this from the first movie' moments.
