Legendary has landed the rights for the China-set Skyscraper movie that has Dwayne Johnson attached to star, says The Hollywood Reporter. Rawson Marshall Thurber, who has worked with Johnson on the upcoming Central Intelligence, will direct and write the action movie, to be produced by Beau Flynn (Dwayne Johnson’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, San Andreas, upcoming Baywatch).

According to the trade, “the project logline is being kept under wraps but has been described as an adventure thriller that takes place in a mega-skyscraper set in China. The planned project also is said to have shades of Die Hard, the classic Bruce Willis action movie set in an office building, as well as Towering Inferno, the 1974 disaster movie that starred Paul Newman and Steve McQueen and featured a gargantuan office building engulfed in flames.”
Flynn will produce Skyscraper via his FlynnPictureCo. with Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions. Thurber will also produce. Universal Pictures will distribute the movie to theaters.

I'm shocked that it's happening, but I shouldn't be, fella's like the anti Guillermo Del Toro/Joe Carnahan, he probably has a list of projects the size of a phone book, but does the damn things one by one.

Pablo Schreiber, who just finished his a first season as leprechaun Mad Sweeney on Starz’s acclaimed American Gods, has, per Deadline, joined the cast of the upcoming Dwayne Johnson actioner, Skyscraper.*The film, which will re-team Johnson with his*Central Intelligence*director Rawson Marshall Thurber, also recently added*Chin Han*(Ghost in the Shell,*Independence Day: Resurgence) and Neve Campbell (Scream, House of Cards) to its cast.


A*Universal Pictures*and*Legendary*production,*Skyscraper stars Johnson*as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building… above the fire line.
Written and directed by Thurber, the 3D action-thriller is produced by Beau Flynn (San Andreas,*Baywatch), Johnson and Thurber.*Skyscraper’s executive producers are Dany Garcia (Baywatch,*Ballers) and Hiram Garcia (San Andreas,*Central Intelligence). Wendy Jacobson (San Andreas), meanwhile, is set to serve as co-producer.
Skyscraper will open in theaters on Friday, July 13, 2018.
Pablo Schreiber is also well known for playing George ‘Pornstache’ Mendez on Netflix‘s hit series*Orange Is the New Black. On the big screen, Schreiber was recently part of Michael Bay’s true 2016 military thriller,*13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

Universal, whose sister network NBC is airing the game this year, has continually had a footprint during Super Bowl, and this year they’re showcasing their June 22 summer sequel juggernaut Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom as well as the Dwayne Johnson July 13 action pic Skyscraper from director Rawson Marshall Thurber. Deadline is informed that both Fallen Kingdom and Skyscraper will run multiple spots.

Back when I was very young and had only seen the VHS cover, I seriously thought that Bruce Willis was literally playing a character named Die Hard. Anyway, Dwayne Johnson revealed in a new Instagram post today that his Skyscraper character is an amputee.
