The Vice-President Joseph Biden Thread

He's not going to get replaced. The guy made a gaffe. Palin said something stupid every day she was the VP candidate and McCain stuck by her. It would be an incredible sign of weakness if Obama overreacted to a bad news cycle and dumped his otherwise quite well-liked VP. I think that would hurt him much more than it would help him.

I agree that Biden won't be replaced, but he isn't exactly, "well-liked." He was at a 40 % approval rating before the chains comment. I'd imagine it has taken a hit since then. But to show how little it matters in terms of elections....he is about where Dick Cheney was at this time in 2004.

If Obama was going to replace Biden, he'd have done it already.

That is very true, but one thing people need to take into account. When doing political polls, you are going to be polling on average 8% more Democrats than Republicans...so to have an approval rating below 50% is more telling to Democrats than it is Republicans...BUT, honestly a President well below 50% going into the last 2.5 months of an election year, is very scary for that administration....as far as VP's go......Cheney's 40% was more to look at than Biden's...no one cares about Biden, they know he has very little influence over the decisions made by this President, whereas Cheney was the Left side of Bush's brain.

I am waiting for the time they announce they will also tax violent movies, magazines, tv shows, comics etc.

United States Vice President Joe Biden has suggested there would be "no legal reason" why taxing violent video games would be an issue.

The Vice President's declaration came in response to a suggestion made by Reverend Franklin Graham at a gun legislation strategy meeting held at the White House recently. Graham, who attended the meeting alongside 19 other religious representatives, put forth the idea that violent video games should be taxed. According to Politico.com, attendees at the meeting said that Biden responded favourably to the Reverend's idea, going so far as to say there would be “no restriction on the ability to do that, there’s no legal reason why they couldn't."

It was suggested by Graham that proceeds of the tax would go towards victims of gun violence and their families, according to the website's sources.

As Geek.com correctly notes, this sort of concern is nothing new. The Obama Administration has funded research into the effects of violent video games on young people following the Sandy Hook tragedy, and is in fact a common theme in the wake of any major national tragedy. At this point there's no indication that Graham's suggestion will come to fruition, with Vice President Biden eventually concluding that a study should be made on the effects violent video games have on developing brains.

Obama better keep his hands off my Candy Crush!

Correlation =/= causation. Any scientist would tell you that; I hope they do follow up with more studies before putting forth the legislation for the tax.

There is no logical reason why only one type of video game should be taxed. I mean...other than the Obama run government and it's love of taxing.

Sadly it would not surprise me in the slightest degree if this is the Obama Administration going tax-happy in a desperate attempt to pay for things we can't afford anymore, and Rev. Graham is getting kickbacks to push this.

It's a stupid idea, but granted, Biden didn't agree that it should be done. He just responded...to Billy Graham's son...that it's not impossible. Graham simply asked him to consider it, and he did for a second and then moved on.

Well, this is one way to needlessly piss off one of your key demographics (young people).

It is pointless to say this is a Democratic or Republican issue. Nanny-staters on the left and moral conservatives on the right have been pushing for it for years.

It's sad that Biden doesn't realize that taxing video games runs directly into freedom of speech issues in a way that taxing a product like soda or cigarettes does not. Of course, he was only a senator, not a constitutional law scholar or judge, before being elected VP. He's also known for saying stupid things, so...

Well, I'm so glad I'll be able to help the victims of gun violence and their families by buying the next Bioshock game. I mean all all know guns don't kill people, violent video games are the real monster here.

He's such an idiot.

They should also tax pornography. The government would make money hand over fist.

Yeah, hate to break to you all that favor one party over the other, but both have been wanting to use the video game industry as some sort of scapegoat for the collapse of society as we know it. I even overheard Rush Limbaugh supporters agreeing with him in banning video games out right.

so how will they determine what is a an actually violent game. does it have to meet certain criteria, there will be simply to many loopholes to get this to work

If you want to be pedantic, all vidya is violent (loophole for vidya tax to infinity and beyond!). Look at Mario--you're deshelling and shamming turtlefolk even as you brain poor deformed mushroomfolk. :csad:

Agreed yes of course games like cod or gets would be included but all it takes is one group of pissed of parents to start against another game

Example: hey little jimmy what ya playing

Pokemon mommy

You mean glorified cock fighting, this need to stop. To the senate
