According to that article the game went viral during the COVID lockdowns, I must have missed that, I bought it a few years later after I saw it on discount.

It's a fun game with friends but I'm struggling to really understand what exactly they're turning into a movie, it doesn't have any lore, story or characters as such.

It blew up on YouTube and Twitch around that time. One of the first indie games to incorporate proximity chat which added to its atmosphere.

Damn, what a great success story considering this was originally made by a solo dev.

And the game is still in EA.
