🏀 NBA: Let’s Get Hoop’d

One of the saddest parts of the downfall of our society has been to see the hatred levied toward Lebron. I saw someone post on social media the other day that the day that the Lakers signed LeBron was “the worst day in Lakers history.”
That’s just stupid. Being a Laker fan, I know how far we’d fallen when Lebron showed up. For all of the adoration Kobe gets (and admittedly he’s an all time great) we forget that his last three seasons in LA they posted win percentages of 32%, 25%, and 20%. Some of those seasons there were significant injuries, but not all of them. I cannot imagine how badly Lebron would get eviscerated if he had a season like Kobe’s in 2015/2016 where he played in all but 16 games and they lost 4 out of every 5 games.

The fact that LeBron came in a couple years later and had them win the championship the following year is nothing short of amazing.

I think, for what I have been read, it was not that the most loyal Lakers fans hates LeBron but they're just not really saw him as a true Laker like Kobe or Magic, or even Shaq.

Eventhough this season would be LeBron's 8th year with the Lakers (that's already longer than his first stint with the Cavs, Heat, and his 2nd Cavs' stint) , but everyfans still identifying LeBron with the Cavs, because thats where his golden years was spent. And his Heat years was his absolute peak, imo.

Speaking of which...I am quite curious...
what do you think of what John Stockton says here?
Do you agree with him?

Typical. He’s trying to stay relevant by tearing down players of today who are infinitely more athletic than he was.

I despise John Stockton. He was the dirtiest point guard I’ve ever seen until Pat Beverly showed up. He got a pass simply because he was white and looked like an accountant. He was branded as scrappy, tough and fundamentally sound. But his style of play wasn’t “tough” or “physical” it was dirty and put his opponents in danger. Maybe the only player I loathe more than Stockton is Malone.

If Stockton is complaining because there aren’t as many players like him out there today, I say “thank goodness.” And then I would follow it up by telling him to look up YouTube videos of Grayson Allen if he wants to watch modern day players who play in his style.

I couldn't stand Stockton either and I was gonna bring up Malone (who I liked even less). I guess "tough" means that you kick someone in the groin when you're going up for a shot.

AND, BTW, I would have LOVED to see Stockton try to pull some of his s**t on Charles Oakley. Regrettably, I don't recall him getting "tough" with Charles.

i'm indifferent on stockton, but i do agree with load management a little. these guys are making a ridiculous amount of money and just sitting. it got so bad the league had to implement minimum number of games for award eligibility etc

It is indeed amazing that Jordan in age 34 , his last with Chicago, played in all 82 games, including playoffs.

And also Stockton, despite what everyone thinks of him, he has played in all 82 games during his last 4 or 5 seasons before retiring (I saw the statistics that he only missed a total 22 games in 18 seasons, that's crazy endurance for a small guard)

While now...with more advanced sports science technology, and yet many choose to rest during back to backs. (I think we all can blame Kawhi for this, lol)

Many players like that in the 90s and 80s...Oakley, Laimbeer, McHale, Rodman, Kemp.

In the 2000s, Artest and Ben Wallace

While now, there are Draymond and Cousins, and who else?
Dillon Brooks? Jimmy Butler?

You all forget the true enforcer of the 80’s: Rick Mahorn. That man was an absolute beast.

I think that we have load management because we have so much more advancements in health science.

An 82 game schedule really isn’t sustainable or healthy. That’s why everyone retired in their early 30’s before the 2000’s rolled around. Now guys play 10 years longer than anyone did back then and play at a high level. Players have learned that they have the power to demand rest in order to elongate their careers and maintain their health.

We knock player greed, but really it is the owners and the league’s greed that refuses to shorten the season.

Oh....I remember Mahorn well. Man I hated that team. Lamebeer might've been the worst. Urggggg.......

First knew of the 80s Pistons through the Last Dance documentary.
The way they explain how they strategized to intentionally knock Jordan off to the ground was crazy, lol

I cannot imagine doing this kind of play in today's era

That was a flat out dirty team then and they'd mostly all be serving suspensions in today's game.

McHale was a flat out dirty player.

Still think this is too early...
Love D-Rose, but imo, he shouldn't get his number retired before the iconic #91 first

I've always wondered if certain teams did this with endorsement deals.....teams in LA and NY would seem to be particularly prime candidates to pull something like this because they are huge metropolitan centers. If you're a top notch NBA player, taking 10M or so less per year on your contract to sign with the Lakers or Knicks could actually make you more money annually than signing with Utah or something like that.

Interestingly enough, the latest on this is that Kawhi’s uncle made similar demands to the Lakers on his behalf (as well as asking for a private jet) and Jeanie balked at them, pointing out that it was illegal. That’s when Kawhi chose the Clippers.

He also made a demand of $15 million in endorsements to the Raptors to stay. Some sources say that Raptors ownership was in the process of arranging those when Kawhi signed with the Clippers because LA was his preferred destination and they offered more.

This could end up being a huge deal. If Silver is smart, he comes down hard on Kawhi and Ballmer. Maybe even kick them out of the League.
If he doesn’t, then the entire integrity of the League is called into question

I love Westbrook. Seeing him fall off of a cliff with his performance has been tough to watch, but I think that he still has a lot that he can still contribute. Crazy as it sounds, I would’ve liked to have seen him return to the Lakers as a role player off the bench earning veteran minimum.

From all reports, he's a good guy. He went to the same HS I went to (Leuzinger.....after I beiled on Gardena) and after he made it in the NBA, he "reportedly" paid for a major upgrade to the gym. He also made the largest contribution ever by a former athlete to UCLA. His generosity around LA is well known. Sure, the Lakers could use him, but there are things about the way he plays that disturbs me. He plays really hard, but turns the ball over more than he should. I often question his shot selection and he could be better defensively. Great player though and a lock hall of famer. You can't argue with the results he's produced.

Interesting. I didn't know all that. If the Clips really did that and get away with it, yeah, it'll probably open the floodgates. I'd say the 2 teams that would benefit the most would be the Lakers and Knicks (and after thinking about it, probably the Celts :yuk: ). :funny:

He’s also invested over 8-figures into Oklahoma City. He could put those investments anywhere, but he’s wanting to better the folks in the community who drafted him.

Meanwhile you have idiots like KD trolling OKC for taking to long to win a championship

Or, as my father used to say "How come there are so many more horse's asses than there are horses?" :funny:
