I thought this wasn't supposed to come out until December... but it's slated to ship Tuesday? :wow:

My bank account will be dead. :(

You're willing to commit to the next-gen media?

I'm giving it a few more years.

True, but I think eventually it will get merged into one format altogether.

I just didn't know this was hitting so early.

I'm getting the HD-DVD add on as soon it hits stores. Been dying to see the Batman Begins in HD and Miami Vice's HD-DVD looks pretty damn sweet as well.

I have not decided whether I'm getting the XBOX360 HD DVD player or a standalone.

I think my plan is to wait for first-hand reviews and word-of-mouth once the player first comes out. If it doesn't seem to be lacking any quality that the standalone player has, I'll definitely get the 360 player. Otherwise, I'm getting a standalone.

Either way, I'm most definitely getting an HD DVD player by Feb. at the latest.

I think whichever media I eventually get, I'll want a standalone player. I have a DVD player in my PS2 which works well enough, but I still bought a standalone player once the price came down.

I presume you're referencing the fact that PS3 comes with Blu-Ray? I won't be getting that for another couple of years, by which point the next-gen media war will be clearer. If HD-DVD is out on top, I'll just buy a HD-DVD player. If not, I'll probably still buy a Blu-Ray player, presuming the price is down by then.

If HD DVD wins im getting a LG player (if they make 1) however if Blu ray wins its A samsung player for me.

I got it today via UPS... :wow:

It looks awesome. Especially watching Batman Begins in HD!!

We finally got our drives in at work yesterday, so today I finally stepped foot into the next-gen of DVDs. I picked up the XBOX360 HD DVD drive and "Corpse Bride" on HD DVD.

Looks incredible on my 44" 720p Panasonic HDTV :)

I have to admit, I am impressed. I just checked out the free King Kong it came with and wow.

Whats up, imdaly?

Haven't seen you on in a while, dude

Sony pays a lot of money to make standards.

Except for that plan really doesn't stick with them. Seeing as UMD, MemStik, BetaMax.. have all been failures for them so far. :o

Well, that's true...

Blu-Ray might not get that far, but it has the PS3 behind it...

Haha hey what's up? I'm on here hours every day, I just don't always post. :p Don't worry, I haven't gone anywhere.

So okay..."King Kong" looks pretty great. But mannnnnn "Corpse Bride"?!?! THAT MOVIE IS FREAKING BEAUTIFUL!!! Absolutely blown away by the video of that HD DVD. :wow:

Oh, and one last thing: Of the 6 XBOX360 HD DVD players that we've gotten in so far...the last one was sold at noon today.

Circuit City (my employers) has been pissing me off all year with the way they're treating the new DVD formats.

Blu-Ray has gotten the full deal: available in store on Day 1; Every released movie in store on each release day; Full-fledged demo setup (showing off the trailer for "Kameo: Elements of Power" as one of the examples of the power of Blu-Ray, nonetheless ); Blu-Ray player/movie advertisements in each week's ads; and a standalone display rack for Blu-Ray discs. Blu-Ray is being shoved in your faces EVERYWHERE by my store........but we haven't sold a SINGLE player or disc yet :p

HD DVD on the other hand should have been in our stores since lanch in April/May, but there was NO sign of it ANYWHERE in our store until around September or so, weeks AFTER the Blu-Ray showed up. And all that we finally got then was a few of the discs. While every movie released on Blu-Ray has been in our stores and collecting dust for months now, we so far only carry about 35 of the 100ish titles available on HD DVD so far. If you only had our store set-up to tell you, would never know that there are about 20% more titles available on HD DVD than Blu-Ray. Until this week, we didn't even carry any HD DVD players in our store to play the discs we had available to sell! The XBOX360 HD DVD player marks the FIRST time a person can walk into our store and get an HD DVD player if they want one....

And people are buying them.

Blu-Ray sits in our store for 4 months => ZERO players sold. ZERO discs sold.

HD DVD sits in our store for 1 day => 6 players sold. 8 discs sold (2 were sold weeks ago before we even sold any players, meaning CC missed out on potential sales by not offering the players)

I hope Circuit City gets their faces out of the hole in the ground soon and realizes that HD DVD SELLS. Sure there's more money to be made off of every Blu-Ray player sold compared to every HD DVD sold...but how much profit are you making when the Blu-Ray players AREN'T SELLING?? I can't begin to tell you how many customers come in and ask me if we're selling any HD DVD players yet...

lol sorry for the rant. :p

I got to check out Superman Returns on HD-DVD the other night...

It was. Seriously, try and defend that movie if you want.

Mentok, how did it look in HD at least?

Am I the only one who thought it was a well-done movie?

I thought it was OK but nothing special. Two action pieces in a 2:30 hour movie about Superman: The Man Of Steel. :down
