La'an evaluates a prototype holodeck with a fictitious case only she can solve.

Riker Manoeuvre!

Yeah, I laughed hard. Of course, I just mentally hear Jack Quaid go "Riker" when I see it happen.

Loved the fake opening. Very fun. And I loved all "bts" at the end. And Paul Wesley clearly had fun going full Shatner.

Just truly, a classic holodeck adventure. Except here, they rightfully say "no, **** this technology". I did like the little call out to the bit of lore Picard used to justify still having the holodeck being operational. La'an is just lucky that she is no Data and/or 23rd century Federation tech can't quite make a Moriarty yet. Seriously, why do they still use this technology? (Right, good therapy, thanks Mariner)

La'an and Spock is kind of surprising. Get a good throuple going, I guess. Or Spock needs to get his sexy times in before his soulmate arrives.

I feel the little scene with Una and M'benga was a pickup, because the show may not have been filmed in that order.

Fun fact, the green alien was the multiarmed bartender from episode 2.

I enjoyed the episode but I think the holodeck plotline was a little too similar to Elementary, Dear Data. Like it was the exact same instruction issue. Since they were testing out the technology and made a big cautionary report, you'd think they would otherwise get rid of the bug or put a warning in the manual in the intervening century. You'd also think that holodeck technology would be a lot more rudimentary at this point.

Nevertheless, I did really love how much real Trek history was built into the holodeck story, with Romijn basically playing Lucille Ball, her studio head partner being her ex-husband, the whole thing with the studios not liking a female first officer, and Mount basically playing Roddenberry.

Did you catch who played the ex-husband/first victim? I assume it is someone we know since they made a big point of all of the holograms being based on transporter patterns.

I adore Quinn as Scotty. He's the first actor I feel like believably could become Doohan as he gets older.

It's very interesting how this series is portraying Spock as quite the ladies' man and then he is basically asexual from TOS forward. La'an actually does feel like a more natural pairing for him than Chapel if we are being honest.
