That was an okay episode more substantive than most this season, but it was basically just a rip-off of the TNG episode The Enemy. The links to Arena and the involvement of the Metrons was unnecessary fanservice that undercut the serious drama of Ortegas' story. It also just reinforced how much retconning this series is doing regarding the Gorn where Arena was supposed to the Federation's first interaction with them.

I don't get why these folks keep doing prequels if they don't want to abide by established canon. There is no excuse for it when you have the Gilroys making stuff like Andor without undermining anything that comes after.

I was happy for Melissa Navia to get a full on spotlight episode, she doesn't get those that much. And yeah, bringing in the metrons kind of undercut the episode,
