Universal Sets ’42′s Chadwick Boseman To Play James Brown
By MIKE FLEMING JR

BREAKING: Universal Pictures has found its James Brown. They’ve set Chadwick Boseman, who just played iconic Brooklyn Dodgers second baseman Jackie Robinson in 42. The Help’s Tate Taylor is directing the film.

Imagine Entertainment‘s Brian Grazer is producing the film with another musical icon, Mick Jagger. The film will be a co-production between Jagged Films, based on a screenplay by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth. Grazer and Jagger will produce along with Jagged’s Victoria Pearman and Imagine’s Erica Huggins.

Universal signed on recently. The story charts a young boy’s rise from extreme poverty and violence to become The Godfather Of Soul, one of the most influential black artists in history whose career spanned six decades. Grazer started the project at a time when the singer himself was an active part in its development, before he died in late 2006.

From now on, Boseman only gets to play real life people. Black Panther is off the table.

Ye-owwwwwwwww!!!!

Boseman better get himself together and drive dat funky soul.

I'm glad they went with him honestly. He's not so well known that he couldn't vanish into the role, and there's no baggage.

Watch Serenity. Or Children of Men. Or American Gangster.

Or movies. :o

Aykroyd? This just got better.

Tika Sumpter Cast In James Brown Biopic ‘Get On Up’

Tika Sumpter has joined the cast of Universal’s James Brown biopic Get On Up. She will play Yvonne Fair, a singer in the James Brown Revue who recorded Brown’s “I Found You,” which later was reworked into his classic “I Got You (I Feel Good).” Tate Taylor is directing the pic, which stars Chadwick Boseman as the Godfather of Soul along with Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Nelsan Ellis. Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth and Steven Baigelman wrote the script, and Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger are producing along with Victoria Pearman and Erica Huggins. Sumpter appears on Tyler Perry’s The Haves And Have-Nots and next will be seen in the feature Ride Along. She is repped by WME and Brookside Artist Management.

I likes that. They didn't even really need to do much of a makeup job.

I forgot about this film. Intrigued, and hoping it turns out well. My mom was a big James Brown fan, and I've listened to quite a bit of his music. The man was an institution.

I still haven't seen 42. Gotta check it out to see Boseman.

I like Chadwick Boseman. In fact, he's my top choice for Luke Cage.
