One semi-final is set, now it's time to dive into the sci fi based action movies of the contest!

Predator. No qualms or second thoughts required. Now if it was Alien v Predator, that would be a different question, but I HATE Aliens so no contest as far as I'm concerned.

Hmmm it's a toss up for me.

Both are brilliant at ratcheting the tension up before we even see the Xeno's/Predator. Great casts of characters. Stunning action scenes and SFX.

I'd say a negative for Aliens is there is a bit of a lull in the middle section. A negative for Predator is that whilst Arnold is at his iconic action star best... there is zero depth to him. Whereas Ripley is a vulnerable, fully formed human with a really touching arc.

Hmmm I'll go with Aliens.

I'm not a big fan of Predator. I respect it's mad testosterone and kick-ass creature design, but I just never enjoyed watching it. It's a classic, make no mistake. I just don't love it.

Aliens is excellent. As much as the grunts annoy me in the film, everything else is amazing. Especially Ripley. I actually think just from pure action standpoint Predator is a superior. Plenty of explosions, running and gunning, muscular men killing everything (and getting killed)... But Aliens is more exciting, imo.

I can see Cameron fighting Cameron in the grand finale.

Aliens. It's oddly more grounded and gritty given the much more sci fi setting. Both have a group of military fighters in underdog circumstances facing bad odds against alien threats but Cameron does it just that much better with just a little more texture, depth and humanity.

I enjoyed Predator a lot more. It's one of my favorite childhood movies. Not that I dont think Aliens isnt as good or better, it's just me enoying one more than other one.

Both are great films IMO, both mix tension building suspense with bursts of superbly shot and edited action. I'd argue Ripley has the best arc in either film and the scene where she goes back for Newt is perhaps my favourite hero moment in any movie.

Predator is so tightly crafted though, it builds perfectly to the final showdown between Dutch and the Predator which is brilliantly constructed, lit and shot, and overall I enjoy the movie just a tad more.

I love both of them but Predator gets my vote. I've watched that movie way more than Aliens and believe me, I've watched Aliens a lot of times over the years. There is just an element of fun in Predator that is missing from Aliens which bumps it ahead for me.

Aliens is one of my all time favourite films but Predator is still above it. There's no limit to how many times I can watch it.

Since Aliens is the sequel can I vote Predator 2? Because I find Predator 2 better than both.

I would have picked Aliens as well. I love Predator, and I was from start kinda annoyed by the marines characters in Aliens back then, but Ripley's bad assery and the tension makes it a winner.

And it's also a great sequel to the masterpiece that is Alien.
