are you kidding?! if you mentioned a bunch of random crap like Scary Movie 4 and Stomp the Yard came out that week, of course AGTRYS would win, but over BABEL and PRESTIGE?! Babel is my own choice for Best Picture out of the noms... and Prestige is a DAMN good movie - it's by the guy who did Batman Returns, how can it be bad at all!

Honestly, AGTRYS wasn't that amazing. It is very good for an independent, and does have a lot of interest in its story and the way its told. The best part was Shia LaBeouf, who is a guaranteed to be a very big up and coming actor. Honestly, the directing is pretty poor and it's structure is really rough, but it's still enjoyable. Like I said, better than Scary Movie 4 and Stomp the Yard, but not better than Prestige OR Babel.

It's better than Babel(but so are lots of things that came out this year).

I was hoping for more RDJr though.

Probably the best movie of last year that no one has heard about. Besides Prairie Home Companion.

nope, better than Babel, better than the Prestige

not saying ether of those movies suck, they are both very good movies

and Babel could be the best pictuer winner, but there is a reason we have another thread dedicated to this, the movie that wins best picture isn't always the best movie

There is a quote on the box that says a guide to recognizing your saints is this generations mean streets, and I take it a step further, its mean streets with heart

Your thoughts?

Did you like this movie?

As for me, I haven't seen it yet, so I would like to know your opinions.

10/10

I thought it was easily one of the best movies of 2006

Shia Lebuf has made his presence known to me that he is gunna be one of the great actors of his generation

I saw this last night, it's a touch disjointed and feels like it could have been fleshed out more but the raw nature of the film and the lead performances from the young cast feel very authentic and suck you into the movie.

There is nothing easy here, it's not a movie you watch for light entertainment and the story is very basic but relatable, although the motives of Chaz Palminateri's character (Father of Shia's Dito) are hard to understand.

From a directing standpoint it's rough and basic, almost docu-style to a degree, but that serves the movie well, those coming off an Iron Man and Tropic Thunder high, hoping for more RDJ are gonna be a bit disappointed, he's good in it......for what time he is in it, I felt there could have been a lot more older Dito in the film.

A lot was made of Shia's performance in this and he is good, but i thought Tatum was his equal, giving easily the best performance ive seen from him. However the stand out performance is from Melonie Diaz, who really makes Laurie feel like real girl and empathetic character, she far outclasses her older counterpart in the role.

All in all it's a movie that is so straight forward and gritty that you will either connect with it and enjoy it, or you wont and you'll hate it, it's not a middle ground kind of film.
