FRESH OFF THE BOAT
It's the 90s and 11 year old, hip-hop loving Eddie (Hudson Yang) just moved to suburban Orlando from DC's Chinatown with his parents (Randall Park and Constance Wu). It's culture shock for his immigrant family in this comedy about pursuing the American Dream. "Fresh Off the Boat" is based on Chef Eddie Huang's memoir Fresh Off the Boat.

"Fresh Off the Boat" stars Randall Park as Louis, Constance Wu as Jessica, Hudson Yang as Eddie, Forrest Wheeler as Emery and Ian Chen as Evan.

"Fresh Off the Boat" was written by Nahnatchka Khan, who also serves as executive producer. Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar are executive producers, and Eddie Huang is producer. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.

Lord. :o

Eh. It's based on a guy's autobiography, and the showrunner is Iranian, so I feel like it won't be too offensive. Though, I'm sure there will be people crying "racism!" regardless.

I won't be watching this, as I'm clearly not in ABC's family sitcom demographic, but it is interesting that the title of the show is an expression that is generally used only by Asian-Americans to describe other Asian-Americans.

Did anyone else watch. I thought it was pretty decent. I laughed a few times. Fits really well into what ABC has been doing with their comedies.

I'll keep watching

I do think it was kinda stupid to premiere it on a night different from when the subsequent episodes will air. I suppose the Modern Family lead in helped, but still.

It's very watered down compared to the book, but I like it. The parents are going to steal this show.

Just realized the guy who plays the dad was Kim Jong Un in The Interview almost did not recognize him being thinner and not rocking the Kim cut.

didn't realize this already aired I have been excited for it for awhile, I'm gonna see if its up on hulu yet

signed up for hulu+ free trial just to watch this and I like both the pilot and the 2nd episode a lot

The 3rd episode (the one aired first tonight) was hilarious
Really hope this show lasts

Thus far their Tuesday comedies have not done well so i don't know why they keep repeating history.

I'm four episodes in, and I'm enjoying it thus far. I loved when his parents called out the principal about the other kid and why no one was inquiring about the other kid's 40 year-old friend! I love the middle kid, he is hilarious!!!

The ratings for the last ep actually went up a small bit, so this looks to be holding some nice ground for now.

It reminds me a lot of Malcolm in the Middle which is good.

Show actually seems strongest when it focuses on the parents.

I've only seen up to the first three episodes but I'll catch up. I'm back and forth on whether I'll keep watching it. At times it feels like a stereotype of asians (even if some of them are occasionally true) but other times it steps away from awkward asian tropes to be funny.

That kid and the 9 to 5 game :lmao:

Constance Wu does a great job in the mom role considering she is only 26 in real life.

The dad's exaggerations about his own father's life was too good.
