Accidental shooting kills one on set of new Alec Baldwin movie

Still makes no sense to me how this **** can still happen.

Especially with CGI nowadays.

First time I've heard of one of these fatal firearms 'mishaps' on a movie set resulting in more than one casualty. It'll be interesting to hear the full story.
Yeah, can't wait to hear the full story. Like....why were there live rounds in a gun handed to an actor? It's a western, so I don't think it could have been a machine gun (unless it was a gatling gun) so how did a couple of people get shot? It apparently wasn't during a scene being shot because the director and cinematographer were shot and not another actor or stuntman. Lots of questions here.

Live round doesn’t necessarily mean a bullet. Could have been a blank. But yeah regardless the prop master should have checked it prior to it going into anyone’s hands.

Further proof of issues on set in productions. Ruby Rose just made some charges about on set safety and treatment of cast and crew just days ago. This just adds fuel to the demands of the strike.

Truly awful, thoughts to Hutchins' family. Based on the fact that the cinematographer was killed and the director was injured, I'm guess this might've happened during a rehearsal discussion between the three? Truly terrible though, I can't believe something like this can even have still.

This is Truly Terrible.
My Sympathies & Condolences to All Involved & Their Families.

I mean, bullet flashes are definitely part of CGI.

It just sounds so bizarre. Did one shot go through and through, then hit the person behind? Did he fire more than once? Was there a ricochet? The investigation's going to be really interesting (in the UK there'd be two simultaneously; one by police to determine any criminal action, and one by the Health and Safety Executive regarding safe/best practice on-set).

Oh my god, that is horrible...how can stuff like that happen?
I dont understand the basics of it, how it is possible when they dont use real bullets.

Its why i really have to give it to actor, getting a gun put in your hand and trusting that the people have done everything to make sure when you pull the trigger, you dont kill someone.
I dont think i could do that.
My brother has one of those air guns and even empty, i never aimed at a person because im so scared that it still could hurt one.

Not even sure how something like this happens these days with how many safety precautions there are on film sets with prop guns.

Well this was surprising.

It's a tragic and bizarre situation, how two people got shot is hard to fathom unless they were rehearsing a scene and the bullet went through and hit the director.

Perhaps I’m wrong but… I thought live rounds were absolutely forbidden on a movie set. (Given that working guns are often used to fire blanks, such weapons are necessary. Therefore, forbidding live rounds is the crucial safety factor.) Even in cases where an effect would be easier to do with real bullet fire rather than an explosive squib, the squib is always used.

This is very weird. :csad:

From what i gather, movie guns are loaded with blanks that when something goes wrong, can fire a projectile that can be deadly.

So my question is, why the hell has nobody invented a way where nothing can become a deadly projectile hitting the person they aim at?

The industry created crazy stuff over the years, but they cant create guns that are safe?
Why not?
It seems playing russian roulette even with blanks in there.

Even if you dont aim directly during shooting, it seems like a way too huge risk.

Yeah. He’s hardly the biggest victim in this, but I do feel awful for Baldwin. He’s gotta be going through the same **** Michael Massee went through all those years ago.
He isn't the biggest victim of this, but no one deserves something so horrific on their conscience when it wasn't their fault.

What an awful tragedy and indeed brings up awful memories of The Crow.

Safe to say this will be a wake up call for safety protocols for all productions regardless of budget.

Its bizar for sure. Will they finish the film i wonder?, would understand they wont after this tragic situation.

God this is just horrible and tragic. How does this happen??! Arent there people who literal jobs are to make sure the props are safe??
