Al Pacino is replacing Robert De Niro in Son of No One, the police thriller starring Channing Tatum and being directed by Dito Montiel, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Hannibal Pictures is teaming with Nu Image/Millenium Films to co-produce and co-distribute the movie, which begins shooting in New York on March 22.

The script, written by Montiel, centers on a young cop (Tatum) who is assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, with an old secret surfacing and threatening to destroy his life and family.

Terrence Howard, Ray Liotta and Katie Holmes are also joining the cast.

I haven't seen "Fighting" but Montiel's "A Guide to Recognizing your Saints" was very good, hope this gives Pacino a decent role, it's been too long.

Sounds like one of THOSE movie. I can already see the trailer:
Flashing big words like hope! secrets! family! betrayal! And they'll probably announce Pacino as Academy Award Winner Al Pacino in it. And end with a stupid tagline. Good God almighty in heaven, the cop genre is stale.
