all those "remastered" titles rendered useless for upgraders..

Wait, is that typo or are you saying you working for MS here?

I mean, I like what you're saying, but this is the first I'm hearing of any of this. I seem to vaguely recall reading something about MS experimenting with in-browsing streaming for games, but this was a long time ago, probably even before Spencer took over the Xbox division.
Spencer has commented on the issue a couple of times:

"Back compat is always a hot topic at the turn of a generation, and I get why, especially on [Xbox 360] so many people bought so much digital content and it means that a lot of us, we’re holding on to our 360s. I get the question. I totally respect the question. There’s nothing I can say about it right now, but I’ll just say ‘I hear you.’ I definitely hear you and I’ll continue to try to work to build something that can help people out.”

and

"We don't have anything to announce on this right now but I like the idea of getting access to all my games."

Honestly, that doesn't sound like much basis to me, but maybe. I mean, he acknowledged it and all, so there's that. Maybe something will come out of it.

It sounds like Microsoft is at least looking at something. The key question IMO is how they will approach it.

I remember reading that they tried local emulation but that the results were not great. They've been doing some stuff with clouds, so maybe that's an option.

Maybe Microsoft should try bringing in Xbox emulation first. The Xbox consoles have always been similar to PC hardware, the current gen consoles should have little problem emulating games from the PlayStation 2/Xbox era, and the Xbox One moved back to the x86 architecture from the Xbox 360's PowerPC which should make things a bit easier for the original Xbox games.

A piecemeal approach to local emulation is the best idea IMO. Right now, I think it's completely unrealistic to expect Sony and Microsoft to just outright give us full backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The emulation technology just hasn't been fully developed yet. While Microsoft will probably have an easier job to make emulation available to their console than Sony, they would still have a lot of work to do. But I think that they should deliver on emulation for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and original Xbox.

Heavy rain & beyond 2 souls are coming to Ps4.

are you calling me a cat?

um, I think you missed the point bro guy. If tekken tag hd for ps3 is the exact same product as a supposed tekken tag hd for ps4 and I need it just to play tekken tag hd on my ps4, I'm gonna feel cheated by the system if I have to get it at the same full price. Certain games offer discounts and even cross guys for titles rebought, but most of them do not, as they are treated as the same product

I don't understand your viewpoint. This IS a different product. Same game? Yes. It's like buying a PS4 version, and then expecting them to give you a X1 version for free because you've already paid for it. They're not going to give you another version for a different console just because you feel inconvenienced. You're asking them to give you something for free when there's no onus on them to do so. If you really want it on PS4, pay for it. If you don't, but still want to play it, play it again on the original system.

Also, YES! Glad Heavy Rain is coming to PS4. Haven't played it in a dog's age, would love to play it again and I don't have my copy for PS3 anymore.

as an example, grand theft auto 5 for the xbone is not the exact same product as it is for Ps4. otherwise there wouldn't be differences in the different versions (there are subtle but clear differences). back to what I originally wanted, tekken tag hd for Ps4 (hypothetically) if nothing added, would be the exact same product as it was for Ps3. if they enhanced the visuals like they did for ffs10 on Ps4 from Ps3, then it would be a different (and higher quality product). if they added online, that would also be make it different & better.

also, like I said to pat, if what you're saying is true about being inconvenienced, then companies like mojang and even sony wouldn't offer discounts or crossbuys for games.

expect more remasters.
With the apparent success of games like The Last of Us Remastered, it should come as no surprise that Sony made some comments recently that it is more than likely that it will be bringing even more remastered games and collections to the PS4. It wasn’t that long ago that remastering a game from a previous generation and bringing it to the current generation was a new idea.

Since it started both Sony and Microsoft have been working fast and furiously to bring games and game series to the Xbox One and the PS4, in part because both companies know that there is a large number of users who didn’t have the previous generation of the console they now own. Jim Ross recently sat down with Playstation Germany and talked about the company’s potential plans when it comes to doing these remasters.

“We know that there are lots of PS4 owners that have either never played games before or used to have an Xbox or a Nintendo who have never had the chance to play something like the Uncharted trilogy,” he said. “But it has to be a great game if we’re going to go to the trouble of remastering. I can’t talk specifically, but I think that it’s very likely that there’ll be more.” The fact of the matter is that when you take into account the games that have already gotten a remaster, there aren’t a ton out there that would still warrant this treatment. Hopefully that means the process will slow down, not speed up.

It should only be for absolute classics.

I meant it as only the very top, cream of the crop. For exclusives pretty much just Uncharted, God of War, Halo & Gears. For multiplat Mass Effect, Skyrim and games of that level.

for playstation exclusives it is pretty much all of them, aside from ratchet & clank and infamous, and I wouldn't be surprised if those get remastered too.

I guess a lot of 360 to PS4 switchers might be interested.

that's the entire premise or justification sony's giving for them but shouldn't 360 owners and overall current gen owners main desire be new installments and new IPs, and not old games? if they're that demanding for the older games why didn't they just have a Ps3 in the first place?
