Amazon working on their own game streaming service

Interesting. Might be a good idea to increase competition but hopefully amazon doesn’t do what they usually do and chase everyone else out

Amazon announces new cloud gaming service called Luna
Amazon Luna – Cloud gaming service

We'll see.. Everybody suddenly wants in on the act.

Why does every controller look like the Xbox controller. Am I the only one that prefersthe playstation controller? I do like the purple color in that controller.

About this Amazon game streaming service... idk. I feel like once Amazon and Google start making their own games, then maybe they'd sell well. But there's already Xbox Game pass for Xbox owners/pc, there's also steam for PC, there's PSNow for Playstation owners/pc and Nintendo iirc, also has a streaming service. I don't know whats really beneficial for subscribing in Stadia and Luna.

i do prefer Xbox style controller more. that's one of the reason why i'm sticking with Xbox even though nobody here in Japan owns Xbox lol

Ah, Amazaon Stadia.

I'm sure it will work out better this time.

I'm pretty sure there's a Xbox like controller variant for Playstation. So if thats stopping you to get a playstation, there's a controller similar for ps.

Oh just looked it up. Xbox's counterpart is Xcloud.

Damn these services are getting more confusing.

oh, it doesn't stop me. i have owned every PlayStations and Xboxes and i will get PS5 down the line.

it's just that Xbox controller is the main reason why Xboxes has been my main console of choice. besides, i've seen Xbox like controller for PS4 but they are bit too expensive.

Hmm........

I guess this adds a new wrinkle as to why MS snatched up Bethesda.

And if Amazon is serious, then we can expect some acquisition wars coming up!

The Big Three of cloud providers... This will be interesting to see even though Google seems to be taking a backseat with Stadia...

yeah. I know that I'm old fashioned, but I recognize that digital/streaming is likely the future in some shape or form and that this is yet another front in the video game "war."

When you look at it from that perspective, you can understand why MS is putting so much focus on Gamepass/Xcloud and acquiring all of these studios/ips.

I remember last year people were like, cloud gaming is never gonna work.

I know it varies from user to user. I'm able to play streets of rage 4 pretty smooth on my phone.

A reminder that Sony and MS have teamed up for cloud-based gaming solutions. It's clear that both see Amazon and Google as potential threats.

Well the monthly fee is cheaper than Stadia.... but do the customers have to buy a game first or does this work like Xbox game pass, in which you can play hundreds of game for a single monthly fee. Stadia is never going to be a huge success with their with business model (montly subscription fee + you have to buy games that you can only stream). Its already considered as a failure by many, its going to be a year since its launched and nothing seems to be changing. I'm assuming Luna learned something from that and all games are free after you paid the 6 dollars monthly fee... but it could also be just streaming and no downloading for offline play.

Also, for services like Stadia and Luna to really take off, they need a larger library of triple A games, new triple A games that are only accessible to their subscription service and i don't really see Amazon and Google suddenly pumping out their own games 5 years from now, the way Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo with their game studios. Xbox game pass and psnow have yet to takeover physical copies/digital copies that aren't downloaddd through a subscription service. What else more for this streaming only services. Thats not going to work for everybody at least not in this time.

Like if cloud streaming becomes a thing and the entire world suddenly gets a stable internet connection and nothing lags/buffers anymore with game streaming, it would be Sony/Steam/Nintendo/Microsoft that would be the go to cloud streaming services for games, simply because they have bigger library of content and they have games that aren't available in every platform. So imo, Amazon and Google aren't really threats so Microsoft and Sony don't really need to team up to improve their cloud gaming service. Gaming is not the forte of Google/Amazon unless they create or buy major gaming studios that would create games only for their platform then maybe. But thats going to take years if not decades. I don't think they can catch up.

It doesn't seem subscribers have to pay full price for the games on Luna so it's essentially like Netflix.

The problem with Stadia is that Google is porting/developing games on Linux which takes a lot of time. Amazon is already ahead of them:

MS getting money from Amazon and Sony in this cloud-gaming venture. :hehe:

Obviously if a company is serious they'll go to great lengths to succeed. Facebook bought Oculus years ago to be in the VR gaming business but haven't shown much since. Google is known to kill off their products so it wouldn't be a surprise if Stadia ends up being another toy Google got bored with and decided to throw away.

We'll see with Amazon. They launched Crucible in the summer with mixed reception and their upcoming MMORPG got delayed to next year following a lukewarm reception from beta tests.

It seems better than Stadia at least but they'll need to offer more before they take off.

I didn't even know what Crucible is until I saw it in google, when I searched that Stadia is flop. Someone in YouTube was comparing if that game is a bigger flop than Stadia.

If there was no new major console released since Windows released their home console back in 2000. I don't see how a company like Apple/Google is suddenly going to have a new gaminv platform that would really be a huge success to the masses, especially a gaming platform that will heavily rely on good internet connection in which they reallyhave no control. This isn't an easy market to get into.

Free mobile games didn't kill these triple A games in which you have to get a Pc/Steam/home or hand held console to access and pay the games. I don't see it changing with streaming/online only subscription service launched by companies without a major game studio. Even a gaming company like Ubisoft would struggle launching a streaming subscription service on their own.

If this service came free with Amazon Prime then it could have a chance. I’m happy to try stuff I don’t have to pay extra for lol.

It would be very hard for anyone to enter the console market now with the history the others have built up. IPs and goodwill amongst fans plus friends and gaming history/achievements/trophies etc, not to mention a library of purchased/downloaded games. But for purely streaming services at a small cost there’s always a chance at going for the casual gamers who don’t need to buy a physical machine. Especially when the attempts are being made by some of the biggest companies in the world who can wield their cheque book to catch up on certain elements. I would much rather Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft continued to prosper though, as I have a strong personal connection to all 3 on the gaming front.

I think streaming services from companies like Amazon could take off if they have big games that aren't accessible to other subscriptions/consoles and they need to build up goodwill and eh, people still buy consoles based on ps4/switch sales. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo already have a following for decades and those three already have their subscription services (gamepass, download or streaming) even before Google and Amazon entered this gaming service thing. So I just don't see many people hopping into this. Like casual gamers won't even what Stadia or Luna is,to even try a 1 month subscription.

I looked up at the reaction online for this Luna announcement and people are shredding it just like they did with Stadia. But I do hope, as a PsGuy, Sony has major plans for PsNow and these streaming announcements are encouraging them to improve their services. Their subscription services confuse me that I can't get out of my comfort zone and just stick to buying physical format for videogames.

I don't think gamers want 5 providers all with exclusive content. I'd make an exception for Amazon if it was free with Prime, but I'd rather they didn't bother and I wouldn't like it if they bought out existing studios and made them exclusive.
