Amazon's The Tick

I really hope they can get the original four back on board.

I've seen Nestor Carbonell in Lost and DKR, seems like he could still pull off Batmanuel.
2014 interview he looks the same -

What about Liz Vassey can she still pull off Captain Liberty?
This is apparently the most recent thing she's in 2014-

Haven't found any recent 2014 images of David Burke (Arthur), but he's supposed to be out of shape.

and Nestor still looks pretty good on Bates Motel...

Although the only official word of a live-action revival of the beloved, absurd 2001 superhero series The Tick has been a tweet from creator Ben Edlund, original star Patrick Warburton is ready and willing to take part.

Caught for comment on the rumors that a new iteration of the franchise may be headed to Amazon Prime — the comic was adapted as a three-season animated series and then a short-lived prime-time comedy of Fox — Warburton played coy on specifics, but spoke to the promise in returning to The Tick.

“I love The Tick. I’d love to do it again,” he told Movie Web. “I never would have thought I’d have the opportunity to do this again. I think it would be a blast to do it again. We’ll see what happens. One thing about The Tick, he is an insane character. I guess he doesn’t have to be 29 years old like Thor. He’ll be 50 battling evil. I’d love to see what Ben Edlund’s new vision for it is. I think it will be different. Perhaps a little darker and a little edgier. We’ll see what happens.”

While he repeatedly stressed he wasn’t fully involved or available to comment on the reboot, which Edlund said was “being pursued with vigor,” Warburton added, “I don’t know what is happening, but I would love to have something where we are really given a shot to make the show that we want to make.”

If he does get involved in The Tick’s return, one thing will have to change for Warbutron to reprise his role as the Big Blue Bug of Justice — the costume. “When you put on a suit, and you need two tubes of K-Y Jelly to assist in putting on the suit, and then you basically spend the next 12 hours in a soup of sweat and K-Y jelly … It’s a side of it that’s not the most fun,” he joked.

Missed this vid. a few months back.
Pay no attention to the man in the Arthur costume? Not much, but they were talking about it.
Scripts were apparently turned in.

That's too bad, but I'm kind of not surprised.

Reboot.:argh:

I was looking forward to the original cast returning.

I wanted to see Warburton and Perlman team up again.

Now I'm curious if they will still go with made for TV characters Captain Liberty and Batmanuel, or revert to the cartoon's American Maid and Die Fledermaus?

It'll be strange seeing others in the roles, but I like Edlund's creations enough, I'll still check it out.

Also we can change the title of the thread to just say The Tick Returning.

It would've been cool to see Warburton as that character again, but honestly... did anyone actually think that a continuation would've been an enticing prospect to a service like Amazon? The thing lasted, what? 8-9 episodes? A decade and a half ago. This isn't an X-Files situation. This isn't Joss Whedon making a Serenity movie 2-3 years after Firefly got canned. It wasn't the kind of show that grabbed pop culture by the balls like Twin Peaks did. Full House, Boy Meets World, Veronica Mars... it's just not the same thing. The show made a tiny splash when it was on, then it disappeared. It didn't go into reruns, it's probably not streaming anywhere, I don't even think there are DVDs available anymore, if there were any in the first place. Amazon clearly thinks it's best to just start fresh, and I find it hard to disagree.

The character is back and Ben Edlund is writing him. That, to me, is the win.

There were definitely available, because I got one.

So that leaves Captain Liberty and Batmanuel?

For Batmanuel I'd consider Netflix's Sense8 Miguel Ángel Silvestre

He looks a bit like Néstor Carbonell, and actually sounds like Batmanuel without trying LOL!, seems like he'd be open to doing a bit of self-parody.
Interview jump to O:58

is it my imagination, or do I see a bit of a younger Christopher Walken in this guy?

I can see it, he's a bit of a chameleon with his looks and impersonations he can be who he wants. LOL!

Ben Edlund explain why now is the right time for a comeback - http://www.ew.com/article/2016/03/28/tick-reboot-amazon

Ben Edlund said:
“We’ve got this show about superheroes [where] we get to have fun with the idea of superheroes by starting with kind of a comedic parody of [an] event-oriented-like universe,” he explains. “It will be darker and more grounded. And it’s going to have a real story, a real hero’s myth. We’re the ones that get to have fun with it and that’s kind of the situation where right now that’s an open field in this area of entertainment.”
“It will be darker and more grounded" ? - Yeah he went there. Although don't panic it's still a "kind of a comedic parody" ...that they "get to have fun with".
So all is right in The City!

Amazon Studios Head Roy Price likes the original so much that he can quote it, according to Josephson. And Lewis asserts that Amazon is the right home for The Tick.

So far only one episode has been commissioned:
And although only one episode has been commissioned so far, Edlund has some lofty expectations: “I think we are shooting for kind of a really interesting goal, which is the sort of superhero comedy that you keep wanting to come back to. So we are going to try and land an amazing airplane here. But I think so far we are just building this fantastic siege engine that’s going to attack your heart.”

I really hope he said that tongue in cheek. The Tick ought not be "dark and grounded" ever. It is absurdist humor. Making The Tick dark and grounded is like trying to make The Naked Gun into a gritty crime noir story.

I took his comments as they're poking fun at the "dark and gritty" style. I expect this Tick will take himself very seriously and think he's badass but he comes off as silly.

I'd be okay with that provided it is not overdone. Half of the fun of The Tick is how incredibly earnest and obliviously cheery he is.
