In the wake of the fairy-tale revival, this film is a fond memory of my childhood. Saw it on HBO in 1999, and was immediately drawn in. It had something to offer for everyone -- pre-POTC swordplay for the boys, a beautiful and smart protagonist for the women, and plenty of humor to keep the guys entertained.
It's probably the best film Drew Barrymore's done in her career IMO. Every time I catch that movie on TV, I have to stop and watch the whole film. It's what chick flicks should be (something that guys can enjoy, not endure), not crap like Nicholas Sparks adaptations or films starring Katherine Heigl.
