Anyone ever use Darik's Boot and Nuke?

I downloaded the program, put it on a DVD so I can wipe an old 80GB HDD I have laying around. I'd like to put it in me PC for extra storage.

I tried quick erase and the DoD short method but they keep failing after 10-15 min. I'm using a laptop that has the HDD hooked up to a USB to SATA converter. DBAN is detecting the drive but it fails.

Any advice out there...?
