Anyone have link to interview where Rosenbaum admits to portraying Shea's Lex?

I've always said that Rosenbaum is essentially playing Lex the way John Shea of Lois and Clark did. There is an interview from when he won a Saturn award where he actually credits John's portrayal as his inspiration. I found a ton of website referring to the interview but not the actual interview being linked.

my only problem with shea was the hair- i like my lexy bald- can't help with the link though sorry

why do you want the interview, it was pretty obvious from season one where Rosenbaum drew his inspiration for Lex from.

Ya know, Lex with hair ISN'T that hard to explain in the Smallville universe.
I mean he is doing all of these amazing scientific projects...surely he could come up with something to grow him some HAIR!

Who cares where he draws his inspiration for Lex from?

Jc does.

I don't know why but it probably has something to do with him lionizing anything that has to do with L&C over anything that Smallville could offer.

Jc is stuck in the early 90's. I bet he still wears a Members Only jacket and listens to Bel Biv Devoe ;)

I think Rosenbaum's version of Lex is his own creation, partly due to the fact that this Lex Luthor started out totally different than any other Lex Luthor.

No your dead wrong, anyway he said he based it on John Shea's Lex, but he has expanded it into his own unique version buy now.

just want to make sure we are on the same page

what in season 1 looks like shea?

Personality, demanor, but Rosenbaum has evolved past that anyway. Watch Lois and Clark season 1, you will get it further.

ah ok cool

and yea i agree, rosenbaum has def evolved.... he's his own lex now.

I don't need jumped on for asking a reasonable question. I was looking for the interview cause it's referred to in like 5 places but never linked to. I'm interested to see it, like it or love it. Get off my back, it's always the same old trollish hags berading me. Get over yourselves. It's a reasonable question in an appropriate forum.

Instead of accusing people of jumping on you, why don't you try and click around on that google thing and see what you can find.

I believe the quote came from an interview he gave after he won the 2001 Saturn Award. I'm pretty sure he had a smile on his face though, so don't get too confident.

pwned!

Shea's Lex really didn't look all that good when they eventually got rid of the hair, so I'm glad his Lex actually had hair for most of his run.

Michael Rosenbaum...

On his audition:
"[The producers] said, 'We want some edge, we want some comedic timing, we want that brooding undertone, that menacing undertone of Lex.' So I literally went through the two and a half pages of dialog, and went, 'Here I'll be funny, here I'll be charismatic, and here I'll be a little manacing.'"

"I went in there and the casting director had this chair, and she wanted me to sit there and do this and do that. I said, 'I don't want to do any of that. I don't want to be confined to the chair, or the desk. I'm just going to do what I do, and you just film me.'"

On being a Superman fan growing up:
"No, I can't say I was ever really a big fan. I loved those big Superman movies. I loved Gene Hackman, always idolized him as a kid, Christopher Reeve obviously."

On what he knew about Lex:
"Oh, I knew who Lex Luthor was. All I could think of was Gene Hackman. Am I going to play this caricature of Lex Luthor, be this wild, crazy guy, and play it over the top? The producers said, 'This is just what we don't want.' I didn't want to make Lex a stereotype of everything that's ever been written or documented or taped or filmed about Lex Luthor. This was the first time. I wanted people to like him, and I think that's what the producers wanted. I like that about him - he wasn't just some goofy character where people go, 'Oh you're that goofy guy on TV.' There's something unusual about him when you watch him. This show is different. It's all unique. It's the story before the story, and that's exciting. And it's all real. We're plying it as real as you can play Superman. Everyone thinks of the cape and the tights - and it's not. It's as simple as we can be. That's what we're doing. I think that's more exciting. There's more to go. There's always new levels to reach."

Based on these and other comments I've read from Rosey, not to mention the fact that he's a known prankster and catching him in a serious moment is a very rare thing indeed, I think if he made any comparisons between his version of Lex and Shea's version, they were probably made with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

i have my tongue in my cheek all the time....its a hard way to live, but manageable

Meh. Could be worse. You could have tape across your mouth like I try to wear every time that damned purple elephant shows up 'round here....

(Darned tape doesn't stick too well though. :p )

What is it that everyone says around here?

PWNED!!

:cwink:

That's not the interview.

It's the one regarding Saturn 2001 award. For the record I have searched for it first before posting about it. There is no weird reason I'm asking for it, I'm just interested to read it. If someone finds that interview about John Shea as his inspiration please post it. Thanks
