    Happy Independence Day, Guest!

Anyone have link to interview where Rosenbaum admits to portraying Shea's Lex?

Jc is stuck in the early 90's. I bet he still wears a Members Only jacket and listens to Bel Biv Devoe ;)

Jc does.

I don't know why but it probably has something to do with him lionizing anything that has to do with L&C over anything that Smallville could offer.

Instead of accusing people of jumping on you, why don't you try and click around on that google thing and see what you can find.

A little uncalled for, guys. Granted Jc does have quite a reputation in these parts, and he has offended people in the past, but I'm sensing a lot of hostility here. All personal distastes aside, when the guy asks a question, wouldn't it be easier to just answer it, and have it done with, rather than just dilly-dallying until the thread becomes a load of offensive spam. And the worst part is, new members are actually picking up on this trend. Let's not encourage this sort of behavior, please.

Agreed....he asked a legit question...and was jumped on for it.

Please act better in the future people.

Rosenbaum's Lex is a different animal than any other live action version of the character to date. And IMHO:

His Lex > everyone else's.

Are you referring to me? If so, there is nothing to be pwned and that's not even the interview I'm referring to  Psychos :o

Not at all. I was referring to the person that I quoted.

I gave my opinion on something and was told that I WAS WRONG.

I didnt know an opinion could be WRONG.

Michael Rosenbaum...

On his audition:
"[The producers] said, 'We want some edge, we want some comedic timing, we want that brooding undertone, that menacing undertone of Lex.' So I literally went through the two and a half pages of dialog, and went, 'Here I'll be funny, here I'll be charismatic, and here I'll be a little manacing.'"

"I went in there and the casting director had this chair, and she wanted me to sit there and do this and do that. I said, 'I don't want to do any of that. I don't want to be confined to the chair, or the desk. I'm just going to do what I do, and you just film me.'"

On being a Superman fan growing up:
"No, I can't say I was ever really a big fan. I loved those big Superman movies. I loved Gene Hackman, always idolized him as a kid, Christopher Reeve obviously."

On what he knew about Lex:
"Oh, I knew who Lex Luthor was. All I could think of was Gene Hackman. Am I going to play this caricature of Lex Luthor, be this wild, crazy guy, and play it over the top? The producers said, 'This is just what we don't want.' I didn't want to make Lex a stereotype of everything that's ever been written or documented or taped or filmed about Lex Luthor. This was the first time. I wanted people to like him, and I think that's what the producers wanted. I like that about him - he wasn't just some goofy character where people go, 'Oh you're that goofy guy on TV.' There's something unusual about him when you watch him. This show is different. It's all unique. It's the story before the story, and that's exciting. And it's all real. We're plying it as real as you can play Superman. Everyone thinks of the cape and the tights - and it's not. It's as simple as we can be. That's what we're doing. I think that's more exciting. There's more to go. There's always new levels to reach."

- from The Official 2004 Smallville Yearbook

Based on these and other comments I've read from Rosey, not to mention the fact that he's a known prankster and catching him in a serious moment is a very rare thing indeed, I think if he made any comparisons between his version of Lex and Shea's version, they were probably made with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

nice info, but avidreader is still so wrong. Not becasue of her/his opinion on Lex, but her belief that smallville Lex started out so differently then the other versions. smallville Lex is basically a mix of pre-crisis Lex and post-crisis lex, plus some new stuff. But his pre fighting superman days are in the same mold as pre-crisis Lex.

Ah, I see. Apparently it's even worse than I thought because now a question can be wrong

Seriously if someone has an interview link, please post it. Thanks

 If anything Lex is more like post-crisis Lex. In pre-crisis he was basically a mad scientist who was evil for the sake of being evil. It was Byrne who revamped him into being an unscrupulous businessman and gave his character some substance with a skewed perspective of right and wrong. Other than him being in Smallville, I dont see Rosenbaum's Lex being anything like pre-crisis.

He is a mix of pre-crisis and post crisis Lex[mostly post]. like you said him being friends with a young clark, loseing his hair by something the evolves clark, and ofcourse him becomeing bests friends and then later mortal enemies with clark kent. Those are all classic elements that made up the silver-age Lex Luthor. ofcourse no one knows what the future holds for smallville Lex, as he seemingly may be the dumbest one of them all if you think about it. Lional Luthor ofcourse is mostly based on a post crisis Lex Luthor[more so then his son] right down to his personalty.
