Anyone use Marvel's subscription?

This was the same with me way back when I did it so I stopped. All of the above posts pretty much cover the way I feel. I don't like my comics bent or late and just the fact alone that Marvel doesn't ship all of their titles was enough for me to head back to the shop. I'm glad I did because, like Phaedrus said, it is important to keep the local guys in busines. I have built a great rapport with my local guy. Sometimes he gives me free comics or goes out of his way to get me alternate covers at no extra cost without me having to ask. :)

That is true, I try to go out and get to the shops, but they are so far away from me. :( There was one right by house that I would go to every week, but he moved....not cause of me of course. :o

Yeah, my regular guy moved once too, further away, but I was able to keep going. I am pretty loyal when it comes to a guy who has done me a few favors now and again. :) If he ever closes down I'll be screwed. I'll have to drive 30 minutes away to get to the next nearest shop. :(

I hear that subscribing can be both good and bad.Good in the sence if you cant get to a comic shop, the comics are mailed to you.But bad in the sence,if you subscribe to a comic, and it starts to go down hill, you cant stop the subscription for a while. This bothers some fans who dont like to pay for bad comics.

I do and get them in paris generally....after I have read the summaries here

Bumping up this topic just so I can get a little more info on subscriptions. I used to subscribe wayyyyy back when I first started collecting as a kid...didn't like it mostly because it came late and the comic was not protected well at all. From what I remember, it came in a clear bag, no backing board or anything. Didn't like the lack of protection the dinky plastic bag provided.

Now I'm in a position where it would be a lot more convenient for me to subscribe and the lateness problem wouldn't be as big of an issue for me...as long as we're not talking more than 2 weeks. I wanted an update seeing as how this topic is about a year old. How does Marvel ship their subscriptions? And can I get an update on the best sources for subscribing? I saw a few mentioned in the topic...do those still rank the highest? Thanks in advance.

Whatever I said before still applies. It comes in a plastic bag with a cardboard backer. I put up a large mailbox so they wouldn't cram them in. Otherwise, you're at the mercy of your mailman (leaving them a polite note goes a long way towards not having any problems.) You'll never get them in as good a shape as at your LCBS, but for me the savings (nearly 50% at times....and no tax) are clearly worth it. I have gotten comics from time to time that have a bent corner, or some small defect. But I would say that's less than 5% of the time.

Oh, and the ones that are late are only late by 2 or 3 days. But I get the majority of them 3-5 days earlier than everyone else. (I even have a thread for it.. The Official Early Bought/Thought thread...My reviews suck, but they are early!)

Do so for the ones you don't mind being in bad shape. Not saying that it will always come in bad shape, but if it does, at least you wont be too broken up about it.

I used to subscribe. PLEASE DON'T.
Every comic you get is pretty much destroyed beyond collectibility. And if you try to cancel. It takes their ******ed customer service months to put it through.

One thing I do like though. not sure if it wwas a mistake or what. but when i cancelled mine. instead of deducting the proce of the issues I already got, they just refunded the whole price
