April '08 Sales

Kind of sucks for DC. Only one comic in the top 10, and a ****ty one at that.

No it doesn't! I swear, sometimes you act like you have opinion cancer.

When Johns refocuses the book onto the actual JSA instead of random newbies and excessive Kingdom Come bull****, I'll try it out again.

Bah, you're like school in July. No Class.

I'm already even starting to resent Kingdom Come itself a little bit for how shamelessly Johns is mining it to death. Magog was a great, tragic character who worked well in KC. And even KC Superman worked okay as the JSA's Superman, contrasting the brighter, sunnier DCU with the bleakness of the KCU. But now it's just going ridiculously overboard, mixing and matching unconnected characters like the KC Starman and the Silver Age Legion's Starboy and all kinds of nonsense. Johns is like a kid revisiting all the stuff he likes rather than actually telling JSA stories.

Finally! I'm glad someone else sees it my way. Doc Destruction keeps pimping this book as one of the best comics out right now, but between Kingdom Come and the Lightning Saga, it hasn't told any story that could be considered original or remarkable in months.

You see Corp? You're agreeing with this guy. THIS GUY! Maybe you need to reevaluate your opinion.

Aw, for ****'s sake. I felt my position was much stronger before this revelation. :(

It's okay. The first step is to realize that you have a problem.

Oh, it doesn't change my mind. GAH agreed with me on some stuff, too. But when an opinion is right, it's right regardless of its supporters, and my opinions are always right. Scientific fact.

I can't help it if your taste buds are in your ass.

I've done that.

I wound up peeling the roof of my mouth off in one swipe two days later :(

So cause I'm never really quite clear on this: what exactly does the "Index" number mean? Is that a direct translation of sales, e.g. Secret Invasion sold 350,000 copies, or does it refer to something else?

Neither makes a whole lot of sense to me as if it's just sales you'd think they could just call it sales and if it's not sales you'd think they'd just use the number for sales but eh, what the hell.

No, it's a percentage relative to one comic, in this case the Batman issue. Notice how that comic has a "100.00" index? That's because it sold 100% compared to itself. The comics above it all have more than 100 because they sold as much as it did and then some, and the comics below it have less than 100 because they didn't sell as much.

The people in the Newsarama thread generally agree that the current index means that SI #1 sold around 250,000 copies.

By that same measure, Incredible Herc sold about 47,600 copies (last month was around 49,000), so it looks like it's levelling out pretty well.

Captain America still hanging in strong in the Top 15. Awesome.

Nova and Moon Knight are barely in the top 100. How is that possible!?
Hudlin's BP isn't even in the top 100 anymore. Crap! I say get a new writer on it before it's canned. I used to support his BP but that freaking frog arc lost me as a reader. But............I'm willing to hang in a little longer. :(
