Because STARDUST was a shadow of the book, and CORALINE was pretty lousy.

On one hand, this movie has about two creepy moments. On the other, it's a sad, sad attempt to adapt the book, which wasn't much to begin with, but maintained a much more interesting tone than this did. I really expected more from the crew that did NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

It's just not that interesting. Every subtley in the book becomes an annoying preachy "obvious plot point".

Dakota Fanning's plucky, I-am-reading-my-lines-with-no-emotion attempt at a performance fell really, really flat.

Teri Hatcher had a good voice for the Other Mother...but you'd think that when she became evil, she'd sound evil.

And...Wybie? WTF? A quasi-ethnic skaterpunk stereotype? In CORALINE?

And what's that? A rollicking "action ending"? You bet.

Eh...I mean, I know the original novel wasn't brilliant, but the tone of this is just...wrong. I realize it's essentially a children's horror movie, and it wasn't all bad. The musical numbers were relatively amusing, as was Senor whats-his-name. But overall, color me disappointed.

I absolutely adore Stardust I thought it was a fantastic film with a fantastic story, of course this is coming from someone who has never read the original story, I have never seen "CORALINE" so cant comment much on that.

I think he wants his name to get out there more and stack paper to the ceiling, so he won't be tired of it soon:huh:

I think Stardust the movie was actually better than the book, and this from a huge Neil Gaiman fan.

I'm getting the feeling from many reviews that Coraline falls a bit flat. But I still think it looks good and will be making a trip to the matinee this afternoon to check it out. Spill.com gave it a positive review and I have more incommen with their reviewers than most. Seeing the film in 3D and enjoy the layers of how it looks should be worth it anyawys.
