Seems like other than war, the one thing on people's minds now are bed bugs.

There are constant TV reports on them and how to get rid of them, and for about 5 weeks I've had to deal with them myself in my apartment. I managed to get an exterminator to spray my place down and so far I've seen nothing, but I'm always worried about them coming back.

So what is everyone's opinion on the whole bed bug epidemic, and have you ever had to deal with them yourself?

Use heat treatment. Not spray that is the only thing that works as of right now. I had to deal with Bedbugs from Summer 2008 to March this year. The only thing that finally worked is heat treatment.

Also as a means of manual killing. get a spray bottle full of rubbing alcohol. It kills them on contact.

This is what I used. Isn't heat treatment expense?

Oh yeah. It is totally expensive. But the apartment I live in literally had an exterminator come & spray every apartment twice a month for 2 years. & the only thing that really did anything was the heat treatment. So...

You might want to do some more research. Because I am sure there are new methods popping up all the time.

I am really, really sorry you have these things. It was by far the worst 2 years of my life I lost a Couch, bed, etc... I was embarrased to have anytone over. I still have post bedbug syndrome. everytime I feel something on me I freak out.

I know how that is, every moment I'm constantly checking for them. And I didn't have a big infestation, but I'm still worried about them coming back.

They haven't yet been shown to spread disease and unless you're susceptible to bad reactions to their bites, bed bugs are quite harmless. I think most of the big deal is that people don't like to think that they could be a meal to something. Personally, they don't bother me, though I doubt I have them.

And the fact that they can bite you when you're sleeping.

I GOT 99 PROBLEMS BUT BED BUGS AINT ONE. Hit me!

well obviously we got a.. Bed bug infestation in Lincoln Park
He’s climbin in your windows
He’s bitin your people up so y’all need to
Hide your kids, Hide your wife

There is a movie theater that we occasionally go to that got busted for bed bugs. I think we won't be going there for a while.

I had to deal with bedbugs back in 2006. We never really found out how we got them, but I'm pretty sure it was because of my brother. He was still living with me and my mom at the time and he was moving out with his gf and their kids to some old dirty house that needed a lot of fixing. So he could stop by their and then come home afterwards. I remember he kept complaining about rashes and how he was bleeding because he was scratching so much. After a month or two of this, me and my mom starting feeling the little itchy feeling at night. When we finally discovered that it was bedbugs, my mom called the exterminator and through out all of the furniture in our rooms. Lucky for me, since my brother moved out, my mom bought me a queen size bed all for myself and new furniture :D

But it was like hell to deal with. I had to stay at my stepdad's house for a few day while my house was being fumigated, and his house is like the land of the lost. No internet, tv, nothing to do in the neighborhood. I remember being really angry because i wanted to see the latest updates for Spider-Man 3, especially after hearing that the teaser was online.

I'm personally still freaking out about swine flu, didn't realize the panic du jour changed. In other words, bed bugs have always been a problem for some people, but the media had other things to panic the public about, shark attacks, SARS, bird flu, West Nile Virus, killer beess, etc... This year it's bed bugs time to shine

It's easy to call them a minor nuisance...until you have to deal with the dirty little ****ers. I fought a major war with them in my last apartment (I had to sleep on an inflatable matress for almost a year!) At the advice of a friend I got a box of Diatomaceous Earth (also called fossil dust) and applied it to every crack and crevice in the place. Seemed to do the trick, eventually I stopped seeing them entirely.

The places they can hide is amazing. Perk of being almost completely flat I guess.

The itch is something in itself, I couldn't sleep. The bites were so bad I was scratching myself with a razor blade.

I should probably start paying attention to these random bites i have on me :csad:

What really sucks is that they don't just bite you once or twice like mosquitoes do, they bite like 3 or 4 times in one area and then continue to move on to the rest of your body.

That's known as "breakfast, lunch, and dinner".

LOL! This is really weird for this to be getting so much news coverage now! I had my complex had literally been knee deep in them for like 2 years. Now that they are gone everyone else is dealing with them. WEIRD!!
