Avengers: Doomsday General News & Discussion Thread

Can't believe those poor marketing decisions by Disney and Marvel that online keyboard marketing experts here, there, and everywhere else, and from people who clearly knew so much better than them, about actually got them and the rest of the internet talking, almost as if everything was going to work out as planned.

Agreed; the X-Men teaser moved the needle the most for me but just a shot of a comic-accurate costume isn't going to make or break this film. To your point, Cyclops looks like all those runway AI videos I see where the original actors are in their comic costumes. Very cool but, again, I'm more interested in the story than what they're dressed in.

And I'm dreading yet another X-Men movie with the Fox actors where we have to watch them all die again...Though, better to watch them die, I suppose, rather than just hearing about their off-screen deaths. We've been killing the X-Men since 2014 with DOFP, then Logan, then again in D&W.

Crossing my fingers and toes that the X-Men universe explored in DD is actually the reset 2023 timeline from DOFP. At least draw some connection to the original franchise beyond just the actors. That's one thing that really bothered me about D&W-- here's Hugh Jackman's long-awaited return to Wolverine, but it's not any version of Logan audiences have seen him portray in the past 9 X-Men films he's appeared in over the past two decades. And all the X-Men are dead. Again. But don't worry; Wolverine's wearing a blue & yellow costume and has a CGI mask for 5 minutes towards the end so you can clap and post theater reactions on YouTube.
It’s likely these are variants, since Mystique was killed in the reset timeline but is alive here. And, to be fair to Deadpool & Wolverine, it did try to connect us to what was left of the Fox franchise, which was pretty much nothing by the end of it.

Lol I forgot about the Dark Phoenix of it all with Mystique dead. Fair point.

D&W made an already-messy Fox universe even messier by merging the Logan & and Deadpool universes. Unnecessarily so IMO. Don't make Logan's death the impetus--the TVA should have been looking to prune the "X-Men" timelines simply because the mutants been messing with time/space too much already (DOFP, DP2) & have been recklessly creating branching multiverses.

It would be ironic if the Fox-Men are the highlight of the movie.

I'm more interested in seeing the Fox Men than most of MCU's legacy characters, especially if they get to interact with the MCU characters I actually do care about.

While I have my problems with the movies, the Fox Men were generally well cast and can shine with good material. I don't think it'd be ironic if they stole the show.

I think the fun part is the interactions between old and new characters, that have never crossed paths before. As much as I enjoy the X-Men, I'm really not that interested in seeing them again if it isn't in a big crossover event like this one.
Still crossing my fingers for Cage's Ghost Rider to show up at some point. I don't like the movies at all, but he's good in it and it's easily one of the best-looking characters in all Marvel movies.

Campea and Rob being super excited because they know everything...watching them geek out was funny. Marvel has never fumbled an Avengers film. Maybe Avengers 2 is not great but ok(its personally my least rewatched Avengers film). I'm still on the train this will be great. can't wait for December 2026!

agreed with some about the idea of bringing the Fox cast only to kill them all again early in the movie as really lame.
That would be Fox all over again, and so redundant. If Feige decided to bring them back after all these years, we would guess its for something a bit more special and with more meat. Jackman already got the spotlight (again) last year in a 2hours movie. Now its time for the rest to get some shine too.

anyway, we already know OG cast will share screentime with the MCU heroes after all, Alan already teased kurt/Reed, Kelsey has suggested crossover scenes, same with Simu Liu and co. So we dont need to worry. It doesnt sound like the X-Men cast returned just for one only big battle sequence.

The timeline was reset again in Deadpool 2 though. Wade went as far back as X-Men Origins: Wolverine to “clean up the timeline”. Wade saved Vanessa and Pete from death. In Deadpool & Wolverine, it was revealed that he saved Shatterstar and the rest of X-Force offscreen.

Who knows what else he did and the ripple effects it caused.

They didn’t merge. They were always meant to be in the same universe.

Except Logan happens in Deadpool's timeline.

Apparently we should be getting the Thor teaser released officially in just about 2 hours. The CA teaser dropped exactly 1 week ago at exactly the same time.

Excited to see and hear it in full HD and to check if there are Easter eggs spread out throughout the footage.

I would also like to see a more serious Thor so that was a nice teaser of what's to come. A pretty meh teaser overall, I think next week's X-men one will be better, but fine.

The X-Men Doomsday teaser was the best one of the 3 so far and by far.

I can't wait for the official release next week.

I will say I've seen some groaning about the marketing around these teasers and I don't really get it. I think it's doing it's job? I get why some people are cynical, I share some of that cynicism, but this is an event movie and they're trying to market it as such.

We'll see how the X-men teaser and the alleged Superbowl trailer are recieved.
