Avengers: Doomsday General News & Discussion Thread

MoM came out when the MCU wasn't ice cold, and this movie will be opening opposite Dune Part 3. There is also the issue of quality. I am very confident this movie isn't going to review well, and won't be as well liked as the last Avengers films. There is a lot more working against this movie than MoM and others.
Mom came out after 3 MCU box office duds and a Spider-Man hit. Actually MoM is a good template for Doomsday, they both brought back X-Men and Fantastic 4… to the fold and a ton of cameos were rumored to be featured in MoM as is Doomsday. The massive differences here are that Doomsday is a big event/Avengers film, featuring still beloved OG characters and a ton of X-Men and established F4 characters… and not a film based on second rate Marvel characters, with some throw away X-Men/F4 cameos.

There’s plenty of time for Dune to move and WB has blinked first plenty times before, they would be stupid not to.

I can’t say that I don’t have my doubts of the movie overall quality. I gotta wait and see what the Russos cook up and they have a pretty decent track record. Also saying that Doomsday won’t be as like as the last 2 Avengers movies isn’t saying anything looking at how well both IW and AEG were received. Coming under that wouldn’t be the end of the world at all, on the contrary…

There’s also a lot more working in favor of an Avengers movies than a Doctor Strange one.

I’ll even go one step further and say that Doomsday will score at least 500M more at the domestic than the second place for the year. Quote me on that. 😉
Dawg what? That's ridiculous. Neither Infinity War or Endgame did that. Hell, not even either of the Avatar film had done that. You'd be hard pressed to find any film ever doing that.

I realized I wrote it wrong. I meant to say at the worldwide box office not at the domestic of course.

So Doomsday will score 500M more worldwide than the 2nd highest grossing film of 2026.

2021 was very much effected by Covid, so Black Widow gets a bit of a pass and Shang-Chi was not a dud. Eternals we can call a dud, sure. And NWH for sure helped MoM out. Doomsday doesn't have a NWH. Ita banking on stuff that worked a decade ago reviving interest, only the creative isn't there this time. It's not going to work the same. Bank on it

Not to mention it was also a victim of the Disney plus day and date release which probably cut into their box office revenue. It did make 80 million domestic opening weekend though which is nothing to sneeze at during Covid.

Shang Chi is a dud in that it would have failed at who it was targeted at.

Also, just saying, perfect timing to bring Captain America to the forefront of your big movie...

These small snippets are already a pretty decent indication of how this is going to be looked at. A very big reach and very well received and the 3rd teaser is going to fall on those exact same footsteps.

1b to 1.6b seems conservative. Specially at that low end of 1b which for me is inconceivable. If Doctor Strange:MOM does 1b, you’re going to tell me that an event film like this is as that low end? Sorry that simply doesn’t compute. Deadpool & Wolverine did like 1.3B and this is an Avengers film with D&W plus everyone else…

Seems to me like a big underestimation.

While I do think the odds are in its favor to become the biggest film of 2026, it's not an overwhelming certainty based on the current state of the MCU and its relationship with the audience.

Audiences are more cynical towards Marvel Studios (and the genre as a whole) than they were even a few years ago (for a number of reasons), let alone 2019. You can see that in declining receipts at the box office and in the online discourse (like here).

One thing to keep an eye on is China. Douban ranked Doomsday as the #1 most anticipated movie of 2026. How that translates in $$ is anyone's guess, but the MCU may still have some juice left in that market. May be the wildcard for how high this goes. We'll see.

Owen Wilson will reportedly return as Agent Mobius in ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’

will he come in on a jet ski?

Makes sense, since the TVA is apparently supposed to be a part of the movie in some way.

I won't be. We all already saw it. I don't have to watch it again

I still haven't seen it- partially because I haven't seen Avatar and also not looking for any leaks outside of one image of Cyclops- so whatever is officially released will be all new to me. Same was the case with the Steve and Thor teasers.

And like clockwork, the 4th teaser trailer has leaked online lol

And this one was...fine? Probably the only one I've liked so far. Mostly cause it's actually utilizing characters we've seen the last few years. You know the ones Marvel should be spotlighting more on.

This one was a bit funny just because we know 100% that one of these people is returning for Doomsday. Thanks for telling us again Marvel lol. BUt an interesting scene

Curiously, it's likely the teaser that will generate the least excitement among the audience

Disney really needed to bring the old characters for Doomsday.

No what they needed to do was actually continue to utilize their newer characters to get audiences invested like they did in the Infinity Saga. No one would care about Steve Rogers if they only used him for 1 movie and he disappeared after that.
