Years ago.......Many many calendars and advertising posters and full page artwork in magazines were paintings of beautiful women having their dresses blown by a gust of wind, caught on a nail, or other such situations as to show their legs/stockings/underwear....but in a non pornographic or too revealing way. It's funny, I knew exactly the kind of art that would be known as pin up art, but didn't know what the name referred to - pin up as in that the women were "pin up girls" (although I guess my use of the term actually originates from your explanation anyway which would have made it more confusing!), or just pin up as in the images were pinned up.
