Backlash after "racist" Stephen Colbert tweet

She is that kind of activist I don't like. She makes a lot of noise, not a lot of action.

That's true but this overall has been imploded into a farce due to being overly sensitive woman, who happens to be Asian. I haven't seen one Asian person on twitter who has supported her; me included.

I think the problems lies with the knee-jerk discourse of social media; it becomes a witch hunt. Hell, even Steve Martin.. STEVE MARTIN was attacked for a 'racist joke' he did, with some folks condemning him. Steve Martin, of all people.

hey now. that was the deal. white people get to run the world. in exchange, they don't get to make racist jokes w/o the risk of public shaming. deal with it. :woot:

Some whites have power, others might need racism to feel important.

Colbert did a good job of explaining it so those outraged people can understand the actual context then promptly ignore it while they hold their pitchforks even higher to demand his cancellation.

It is my greatest dream to lure the twitter inactivists and tumblr inactivists into a knockdown dragout e-brawl.

I guess her little stunt really backfired.

Colbert just took a giant **** on everyone. Because you know most of these ****ing racial activists probably watch Letterman, now they HAVE to watch Colbert bahaha.

I wonder if he'll stay in character or if he'll be different at all.

I hope he'll be more serious. That character is good for The Colbert Report...he kind of took his personality from The Daily Show and made his own to accompany Jon Stewart.

The Late Show's a completely different type of audience.

That is a good question though. Sucks that The Colbert Report will go away though. I can't see him doing both shows. If he did that would be a pretty insane workload on his part.

I'm sure it's physically impossible to do both shows. He's a writer in the Report and is very involved in the process every day.

I'm also not sure if CBS will let him be in character either. He's just a little too subversive, and audiences for The Late Show probably won't understand satire as well.

It's already been said his Colbert Report persona is not transitioning to Late Show.

Well, that sucks to lose the Colbert Report. I think it would be funny if his Colbert persona did a report on his Late Show. That could be hilarious, but would probably get old pretty fast though.

It'll be really interesting to see him serious. I love when Stewart cuts the BS and really gets down to the serious stuff on his show. It'll be cool to see Stephen do the same now.

Read a report that since Colbert is taking the show Craig Ferguson is going to get millions since he wasn't bumped up to the big time. It pays to have clauses in your contracts folks

I'm actually bummed about this. I don't want 'The Colbert Report' to end, and I'm not big into the watered down comedy on the network late night shows.

Wouldn't it be better for CBS to retire the Late Show name and build a new show around Colbert? The Late Show is Letterman, will always be associated with Letterman.

Yeah, it seems pointless calling it the Late Show when he takes over because it's going to be vastly different. I understand the Tonight Show has a history and prestige about it which makes sense in terms of keeping the title going, but the Late Show has and will always be Letterman's baby. The Stephen Colbert Show works for me.

I think CBS will retain The Late Show in order to build up brand identity over the long term. Putting in Stephen Colbert will help with that.

Knowing Colbert, he'd probably want to call it The Laterer Show though. :)

At least we aren't losing The Daily Show. Although I would love to see Stewart talk real politics and be serious....he's such a brilliant man.

I sometimes wish Jon Stewart and Bill Maher were on opposite sides of the political spectrum, so we could have a show where those two really go at it. Sadly, I imagine they are on side with each other on most things.

A Dennis Miller/Jon Stewart debate show would be interesting though.

It's funny how this #cancelcolbert died so fast.

ON NPR, there was a report about racism in comedy. But the problem is that all comedians has poked fun at race. Some more aggressive than others, but everyone has done it.

Comedy is a transgresive medium. It's designed to make fun and create a commentary out of everyday life, social 'norms' and politics.

Think about this: Imagine if family advocate groups being upset that Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin or Archer Bunker aren't a responsible fathers.
