I've noticed more and more young people are opting to choose one of these apps over a bank account for their money. I was wondering if anyone has done the same here or have advice for or against such a move.

Against.

Anything not FDIC or equivalent insured is just asking to throw your money away.

Paypal/Venmo, Cash App, etc. are all pseudo banks with little to no regulatory authority to prevent them from just closing your account, taking the money and leaving you with nothing. It's happened many, many, many times and a quick Google search will show you countless examples of them doing just that. People have lost hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars when Paypal or whoever decided you violated their terms and closed the account, taking the money with them.

And crypto? If you want to invest in crypto. Just burn it in your backyard. It's about the same end result. Except burning it in your backyard doesn't produce as much CO2.
