Bannable words in the school system

Let's make up code words for the banned words.
I'll start....

Instead of 'birthday', we should say 'that innate date of coming into this world that we all share in being human, but for some reason the freaky-deaky Jehovah's Witnesses get sensitive about because of their f'd up beliefs'.

Birthday=Happy pop cork day. Like those pop-cork toy rifles with the string--no never mind. I had equated that cork with an umbilical cord and the cork with the baby. Unfortunately I referenced a toy gun. :(

Old word:
Dinosaur

New word:
Fundamentalist

im gonna have to stop you there...the Jehovah Witnesses aren't the reason they can't say birthday...its the education dept.
JW's don't sue because people say Birthday
sorry I am a little sensitive to this...my mom is one

You can try.... :O

I'm not saying it is...but...

....they won't say birthday on a test...because......it's something that who may be sensitive over....?

sorry I am a little sensitive to this...my mom is one
Add 'mom' to the ban list then.

:oldrazz:

It's more a commentary on how ultimately offensive it is to skirt around a word that's used in obvious content than it is to just leave it in.

Test question: Timmy was seven years old two years ago...how many candles will he have on his birthday cake this year?

Student: I....can't take this test...my mother's a Jehova's Witness...and she doesn't celebrate birthdays...especially mine...when other kids' parents do....and this makes me sad...and I'm going to take it out on society one day....because this test reminded me of that...

Really?

Birthday

That word that Jehovah's Witnesses won't sue anyone for using, but we're banning anyway so as not to disturb some of their sensitivities over somehow not celebrating them.

Do atheists get angry when they see american coins?

No, because to them it's only money. It could say 'Love The Loch Ness Monster' on it, for that matter.

Blaming JW's is ridiculous. There is no indication that people have been complaining over these words. This is an education board that has gone loony. The blame lies with them.

Yes, and it's also quite ridiculous to try and avoid ruffling sensitive feathers if nothing is said about it by the JW's...or anyone else who they're compromising for....to begin with.

No-one's blaming the JW's....or the fundamentalists...or the children of divorce, or anti-pagans...for anything. But for some reason, the board thinks that simple words used in common everyday language will somehow distract them on their tests. The point is that by trying to politely compensate for any of these groups, the board of ed is exhibiting just how petty and myopic they think they are.
