The very first question we almost always ask when we hear of a new film project is, are there are any creative elements attached? In the case of Barry Sonnenfeld’s latest, the answer is that there are actually six: Gold, Iron, Lead, Mercury, Tin, and Platinum.
While the Men in Black 3 director has been circumspect about just which sixties comic book he’s adapting at Warner Bros., our spies tell us that Sonnenfeld has actually attached himself to DC Comics’ The Metal Men series.
For those unfamiliar (and let’s be honest, that's probably most people), The Metal Men centers on an artificial-intelligence expert named William Magnus who creates six cyborgs, each made from a distinct chemical element with talents reflecting their places in the periodic table: Gold, their leader, was almost infinitely stretchable; Iron, the strongman; Lead, the simpleton protector; Mercury, the capricious risk-taker who could melt into the tiniest crevices; Platinum, a female cyborg who could flatten herself but who couldn’t believe she wasn’t a real woman.
Sadly, we’re still in doubt as to just what the sub-atomic talents of the self-doubting Tin are. Food preservation? Recycling? Refreshment? All three?

I love Barry Sonnenfeld, and I'll see this if it happens, but idk, I'd rather he turn his talents on more interesting concepts, this one just sounds...silly. but if anyone can do silly well, its him I guess.

Hey if they manage to make a hit out of this then more power to them but I mean really...who wanted to see a Metal Men movie?

This is actually a pretty fun concept that he could work with. I kinda hope it's a period piece a la Captain America, and maybe it ends up with them basically being immortal and ending up alive in modern times at the end or something.

Metal Men?? REALLY???!!! If this is true & does come to fruition on the big screen, I'll cry tears of joy because it's one of my all time favorites!!! :wow:

I expect the Metal Men to be CGI, so it'll be Dr. Magnus and a villain. Pretty cheap casting.

They'll more than likely go with mocap so expect a few big names in there amongst the team.

Michaael Stuhlbarg for Will Magnus.

I wonder if they'll keep the subplot of Platinum having a massive crush on Doc Magnus.

Also, another question is which villain would they fight since their rouges gallery is a little small? Chemo maybe?

Never imagined a day where such a film would exist

This is gonna be great., i love the metal men especially Mercury. the most visdualy interesting and the one i relate to most. heres a few people that could work in it.

Why must everything turn into a casting thread?

Complaining about threads like this turning into casting threads is like complaining about the sun coming up in the morning.

Since this is Barry Sonnenfeld and I'm assuming he's going for a fairly light MIB type of tone, I wouldn't be surprised to see Will Smith as Magnus.

If not him, then I'm guessing it will be some A-List comedy guy such as Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, or Jim Carrey. The Metal Men will be CGI/MoCap but probably voiced by whatever big names are willing to take the paycheck.

I imagine they'll re-imagine Will Magnus as someone younger. Probably cast some bankable actor for the role.

Assuming this is true, I'll put it down as another entry in the "What is WB thinking?" column. If they can't sell the relatively straightforward and serious Green Lantern, what makes them think they can sell something as campy and weird as the Metal Men?

Because it'll be a comedy.

And Green Lantern isn't exactly dreadfully serious.

I think because Metal Man has a cool concept and could make do with a lower budget.
