Why does Batman hardly ever fight his actual villains? He is always fighting the thugs, not their leader.

Because the classic, most famous Batman villains are more criminal masterminds than physical threats. The idea is that Batman is such a superb fighter and athlete, and he's matched against the most incredible criminal minds. So he has to use brawn to defeat the henchmen, but brains to defeat the villain himself. It's a common set-up - look at Superman and Lex Luthor, look at James Bond films, and so on.

It's also because, when the classic Batman characters were invented, the writers liked to have inventive, witty crimes performed each week for Batman to stop, and thus a clever criminal was needed to come up with them.

Because most of them are not a physical match for Batman.

Only ones who could offer him a decent fight so far are Catwoman and Ra's. And he had some good fights with them.

Villains such as Man-bat, Clayface are physical matches for Batman, but they haven't appeared in movies yet and, honestly, I don't see it happening anytime soon, too...

Well, do you think that WB would let Batman beat the **** out of Catwoman for like 10 mins straight? That would have really upset the parents (especially the mothers).

I think there's a bit of a difference between, "Why does Batman hardly ever fight his villains?" and, "Why doesn't Batman beat the **** out of Catwoman for ten minutes straight?"

Seeing as this is the Misc Batman Films board, I'm going to go on a limb and say that Arnold Schwarzenegger would tear George Clooney to shreds :cwink:

George Clooney?? Arnold Schwarzenegger?? I never heard of them being in a Batman movie :oldrazz:

I don't even acknowledge the existence of Schumacher's crap fests.

Boy, the Batman vs Freeze fight was a letdown, wasn't it? Basically a lot of pushing and shoving over who got to play with the big telescope.

Lol, I'm with Ock. Those movies aren't canon:oldrazz:

That was the worst superhero fight ever(well second) complete with terrible "COOLAH" lines ;)

It was better - or not as bad - as Superman fighting Nuclear Man. Or Catwoman fighting Sharon Stone.

Two men in colorful costumes fighting over a giant phallic symbol?

Yep, sounds about right. :woot:

On topic, I hope Ledger's Joker can thrown down with Bats like in the early Joker issues. Though judging from the new pic, all Batman would have to do is stick his fingers into J's gaping maw and tug, rip his face wide open.

Hey, Batman used to rip people's faces off all the time back in the 40's and 50's. He even did it a few times in the Adam West TV show.

I agree. A superhero's villains are more interesting if they are mental or emotional threats, not just physical threats.

Although, I think more Batman villains deserve credit for being physical threats to Batman. Bane, Mr. Freeze, Man-Bat, Killer Croc, Catwoman, Ras Al Ghul, even Two-Face (hey, he's still a big guy, and can throw a punch)

I think only Joker, Riddler, Ventrioloquist, and Scarecrow are specifically written to be guantly, scrawny, no muscle weaklings who couldn't fight Batman whatsoever. Oh yeah, and the Mad Hatter can't fight either.

Another thing is that in the movies, Batman is wearing heavy thick costume, you guys remember in Batman '89 Joker tried to punch Batman in the gut but his suit was real thick and he hurt his hand.

And yet that last henchman of Joker's managed to really give Batman an ass whupping before he was killed

Blades on?? On what exactly??
