Its the titanic battle to end all battles, Trek v Wars, which do you prefer ?

The Geek / Nerd face-off of them all.

Please consider when making your FINAL decision, not just the films, but the quality of characters, heritage, the merchandise, ships, fan-base, costumes, writing, the IMPACT on genre of sci-fi & fantasy, the whole nine yards.

I will ALWAYS be Trek over Wars.

Not sure what to vote for because I prefer Star Wars as my tastes lean towards the more fantastical (+ Trek movies mostly suck), BUT I think Trek shows are generally better and have more to say.

I vote Trek because I've grown to hate some of the Star Wars fandom.

Star Wars fans are becoming the alt-right of fandom right now, but Trek has its share of agenda whiners (who apparently forget what Star Trek is supposed to be about).

Well, the wording is “which do you prefer,” not “which is best,” so I think I’ll have to go with Wars.

Wars. Why? I just never really got into Star Trek even though I know it's intellectually superior. I grew up with Star Wars.

Not a massive fan of either, but of the two Star Trek (TNG and Voyager).

If people wish to regard 'prefer' as 'best', that's all cool. Whichever, you regard as your favourite really.

I grew up with both in my life from an early age, and was exposed to all forms of media early on in both but I think Trek has always captured my imagination more, I love the themes of what it's trying to achieve more and I suppose I related to the characters from early on more, too.

Video countdown of the Trek films from worst to best....

edit : Doesn't include ST : Beyond as it wasn't released at time of video made

On a side issue, I hope more than anything, all the contractual gubbins can be put aside to make a fourth ST new-era film.

Star Wars

Watched the hell out of the original trilogy VHS tapes growing up. Enjoy the prequel trilogy as well.

Star Wars will always be something special for me. Some of my oldest memories revolve around star wars and a lot of my interests spawned from my love of star wars.

But I enjoy star trek.

I voted Star Wars though it only barely edges out Star Trek. Trek has fumbled more times than Wars has, though this past few years Star Wars has been contending with uneven direction (Solo, TLJ).

The cartoons made me appreciate that Star Wars is indeed a galaxy far, far away with a plethora of characters from every corner of a galaxy far, far away.
I'm guessing it's like that with the now defunct expanded universe.
Star Trek was already Tracer and they kept things fresh by having a new roster to follow after every few years.
Both got pretty stale for different reasons:
  • the Skywalker-Solo saga is now the least imaginative thing ever
  • Trek decided to stray closer to Star Wars

I go with Trek. The following is just my opinion, obviously. Not casting shade on Star Wars.

With Star Wars, it's a mixed bag. I loved the original 3. Thought episode 3, and TFA were OK. Hated episodes 1&2, and TLJ. Basically, it's a series that started out very strong (arguably some of the best movies of all time), and then became mediocre, IMO. There are much better sci-fi, and fantasy movies out there now than the newer Star Wars movies.

With Star Trek, it has its hits, and misses too. I typically veer away from the older movies TBH. However, there are plenty of good series, spanning many years, exploring many topics. It's more diverse. The first Trek was ahead of its time. Then TNG came along, and became not only a part of my childhood, a good TV series, but one of my favorite sci-fi any things of all time. DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, all good series (well parts of Enterprise, and DS9).

Basically, it boils down to me having gotten more, consistent entertainment from Trek. I enjoy the Trek world building, and universe more as well. If you take the original 3 Star Wars films out of the equation, it's not a very good film series. If you take the original Trek, TNG, and DS9 out of the equation, you still have other good series, and movies.

Overall I prefer Star Wars. It's doofy half the time but frankly so is Star Trek, and I just think Star Wars' universe is more fun and it's kind of lame how Star Trek's "aliens" are just people with minimal prosthetic makeup or pointy ears.

Trek for me. It wasn't until recently that I was introduced to it. I think generally it is more cerebral and grounded by emotions and less brash and bombastic. Which I realize is not popular opinion. Same reason why I prefer X-Men to Avengers films/ Alice in Wonderland over The Wizard of Oz etc...

That grand and operatic thing is what I love about Star Wars. A lot of that has to do with John Williams.

Trek vote did I cast... :cwink:
Even though I grew up with the original Star Wars movies.
But I just enjoy the greater depth which the TV incarnations of Trek made. Especially TNG.

But to be fair, I love ‘em both. Just in different ways. It’s kind of like asking which of your children is your favourite really. :D
