Best ever Sit-Com ?

Personal preference aside, I'd say that objectively the 'Best' UK sitcoms are (in no particular order):

1. Only Fools and Horses
2. Dad's Army
3. Fawlty Towers
4. The Office
5. Blackadder

Good call on Dad's Army. That would probably be my no. 3 after Fawlty Towers and Blackadder.

Of those, love Dad's Army. I will never understand or 'get' the love for Only Fools, I appreciate it's much loved and I'm not having a go for it being loved by others, just that I don't love it or even like it, myself.

I find Only Fools and Horses very hit and miss. There are episodes that I find side-splittingly funny, and those that don't do much for me at all. I do think the entire cast were excellent though.

CHEERS...Best Sit-Com EVER.

Why?

Likeable characters, likeable setting, character progression and an enduring format. Most Sit-Coms burn-out within 5 years...

CHEERS just kept getting better.

Seinfeld forever and always. Married with Children and early Simpsons/South Park would be in the top 5 as well.

Forgot to add Curb Your Enthusiasm. Oh and Friends was and always will be crap.

I think Friends was a case of 'right time, right place', in terms of zeitgeist. It filled a whole for a '20 something' lifestyle that other sit-com's at the time were not reaching out too.

Quality in question or not, it defined the 90's by way of a show.

I forgot The Cosby's because Bill just left a dark shadow over that show and All in the Family.

Why would stuff cosbey did recently have a pall over a much older show though?

What "recently" do you mean? He allegedly has been doing this while the show was going on. It's like Seventh Heaven that show used to be good wholesome guilty pleasure camp but I just don't view it through the same lense anymore.

Most of those charges i thought came AFTER he was done with the show. Not during it.

I liked Friends back in the day and still watch it occasionally on Netflix, but the sitcom that's had the most "com" for me has to be Will & Grace. Funniest damn show ever for me, and nothing has topped it to date. I love Futurama too, but in a different way.

I also always preferred Everybody Loves Raymond over Seinfeld, just found it funnier. Some other 80s/90s sitcoms I liked were Perfect Strangers, Full House, and Sabrina (the talking cat was probably the best part of the show).

Red Dwarf
The League of Gentlemen
Dad's Army
Fawlty Towers
I'm Alan Partridge

Whilst I'm here I might as well list my worst;
Miranda
Mrs Brown's Boys

Can't believe I forgot Red Dwarf! Definitely deserves a mention

In theory and by rights, I should love Red Dwarf but have never found it any good.

Sharpest writing of any sitcom I've seen

If Friends were funny.

I don't know about 'best ever' but I really like watching The Goldbergs. It's nostalgic and also a wholesome program (which is rare these days)
