So in the long history of comic book movies, there have been some truly iconic portrayals of beloved comic characters. But for every great adaptation, there's the downside, the great characters who either never met the potential we as fans know they have or were just plain horribly adapted to the point of no longer being the character we know and love? Which characters do you think got the shortest end of the stick in their film adaptations?

One character immediately comes to mind. Rhymes with "boom."

The FF since they haven't had a decent movie yet after like four failed attempts now.

This is a tough question, because it's not simply "worst performance " or "worst characterisation" but kind of both at the same time.

Green Lantern would be my first thought - because he's an A-list DC character with a well established backstory, a huge supporting cast, and literally a universe full of story potential.

IMO you're short-changing GL if you have most of the action happen on Earth (as the Animated series, short-lived as it was, clearly showed - it was many, many times better than the live action film).

I totally agree that the mad monarch of Latveria has also been utterly wasted in his film appearances - but as he's a supporting character it doesn't seem as big a crime as with GL.

Also, the 2005 and 2007 FF films weren't great - but considering that they predate what's sure to be the Golden Age of Superhero films ( 2008 onwards), they're really not that bad. Personally, I think the Human Torch and Thing chemistry was nicely done.

Off the top of my head....the worst waste or representation of a character was Doctor Doom.

Robin and Batgirl

And I really hope the characters gets another chance one day.

I was going to say FF and Doom, but Evans and to a lesser extent Chiklis were the only bright spots.

Poison Ivy (so far...fingers crossed) and Emma Frost are the ones that concern me the most.

Just so many bad movies to choose from.
Supergirl
Steel
Catwoman
Elektra
Jonah Hex
Barb Wire
Tank Girl
Howard the Duck
Dennis the Menace

Cavill's Superman. He has all the attributes to make Superman an icon again. Unfortunately for him and us this Superman has been a huge let down.

There is a pretty long list, Captain Wagner. I have a hard time singling out just one as worse than all others. The Spider-man fan in me wants to say Venom. As a Green Lantern fan, part of me wants to say Sinestro. As a Hulk fan, Doc Samson has gotten a raw deal. As an Avengers fan, I'm highly disappointed with the INO versions of Mandarin and Baron Zemo.

Yet when I think about what Fox did with Galactus, I'm still perplexed as to why he was just a big smear of soot with no personality. The original FF films squandered one of Marvel's iconic big bads and a shot at telling a memorable space opera story.

This has to be the Fantastic 4/Doom. Every other answer either has some redeeming qualities or isnt relevant enough imo

Dr. Doom. Hands down, every day of the week. It's like if Dark Helmet were the best onscreen portrayal of Darth Vader.

If the WW movie isn't good it will blow all these examples out of the water.

Psylocke, Angel, Emma Frost, Banshee, Havok, Jubilee, Gambit, Bishop and Apocalypse of the X-Men!

Also Beast, Cyclops, Shadowcat and Storm to some extent.

Not the biggest, but the one I feel the most upset about is Cyclops. I thought Tye Sheridan's portrayal was a step in the right direction though

Also: Doom, pretty much all 4 members of the Fantastic 4, Robin and I'm sure a couple of MCU villains could be mentioned.

Doom in anything
Galactus in F42
Superman in BvS
Bane in Batman & Robin
Two-Face in Batman Forever
The Joker in Suicide Squad
Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse

Mr. Freeze. B:TAS gave him great characterization and a great backstory, which would have been perfect for a live-action film version. But B&R wasted all that potential and turned Freeze into a laughingstock.

Green Lantern and his whole supporting cast have also been wasted thanks to that pathetic 2011 film, and the Green Lantern franchise still hasn't recovered in the cinema world.
