Biggest years in ticket sales

Wow, I'm surprised 2008 isn't there.

2008 wasn't that great. It was actually weaker than 2007 even when you just look at the total gross of the year. Then in 2009 it was a big jump up.

I guess that's the case then.

Maybe I'm only thinking about TDK, Indy 4, Iron Man, and Quantum of Solace, lol.

Its not like Quantum did huge numbers in the States, or anywhere really.

2008 had only 6 movies grossing over $200 million (and, no, neither QoS or Twilight were among them). 2007 had 11 movies over $200 million. So the money certainly were spread out more then

It's interesting that this current decade has so far been underperforming.

Are these really tickets sold or simply gross divided by an average ticket (of that particular year) ?

It's kinda mind boggling that studios keep throwing revenue numbers , when there's an individual metric for attendance. It's just a great way to spin the tendencies.

Discs are sold. Video game units are sold. Even blu ray/dvd/vhs units were reported. But tickets ? Naaaaah. It's such a ridiculous practice. Just show us the real numbers.

I think the reason Hollywood prefer to talk about the gross is that, because of higher ticket prices, you get new records pretty much every year. It just sounds more impressive when you can announce that Avengers opens with over $200 million rather than announce how many tickets were sold
