DC Entertainment and the family of Bill Finger are pleased to announce that they have reached an agreement that recognizes Mr. Finger’s significant contributions to the Batman family of characters. "Bill Finger was instrumental in developing many of the key creative elements that enrich the Batman universe, and we look forward to building on our acknowledgement of his significant role in DC Comics’ history," stated Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment. "As part of our acknowledgement of those contributions," Nelson continued, "we are pleased to confirm today that Bill Finger will be receiving credit in the Warner Bros. television series Gotham beginning later this season, and in the forthcoming motion picture Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

About darn time. Long overdue. But better late than never.

Yeah, Long Over Due.
Very glad Finger is getting Credit for his co-creation.

:)

Awesome news. I wonder how hard Kane's family fought this.

Wish they did it 40 years ago, but better late than never.

When you guys say it's a start/step in the right direction, I assume you believe he should be credited as Batman's main creator.

Sure Kane did do some but I feel Finger did most of the heavy lifting and I want it done just to spite Kane. The man was such a bastard. Like Neal Adams said, Kane used comics in conversation to turn the conversation into and about himself.

Yeah Kane may have came up with the original concept of Batman, but Finger pretty much perfected it. Even though I'm happy that Finger is getting his due. It feels like it's too little too late at this point.

I agree. Finger turned a very basic idea into something special. Not just with Batman, but with several of the villains, too. We all saw what Kane's Batman sketch looked like before Finger got involved;

Unbelievable, I’m in full support of this.

Bill was certainly a major player in those early days; most of the villains were pretty much created by him like Joker, Penguin, Riddler, and partially Catwoman. Two-Face was mainly created by Kane, but even then, Finger was the one to develop him as a character.

About time. I would have hope "Created by Bob Kane&Bill Finger" but this is a huge thing that DC have put Bill Fingers name on the stuff now and that it will appear in both comics and films. Well Done DC.

For people unfamiliar with the history:

Article is a bit harsh, but the facts are there to read.

The article deserves to be harsh

Selfish crooks deserve to be bashed.

Yeah, Bob could have acknowledged Finger's contribution in later years, but to be fair, this all started in an era where ghost writers like Finger, who did most of the work of the writers and publishers that hire them and got no credit at all for the work they did.
It was a common, everyday practice back then.
Still, as I said, Kane, in later years, could have done the right thing and came forward with the truth, but let's not act as if he was some kind of evil monster. And to be exact, he wasn't a crook, what he did was perfectly legal, albeit some what morally ambiguous. Again, he was a product of his times.

It's one thing to try and gain most of the royalties but to deny a co-creator basic credit for one of the biggest fictional characters in history decade after decade after decade.

There's simply no excuse.

I'm happy for Bill Finger's family providing they're more concerned with Finger's legacy than royalty checks.

People actually try to sugar coat Kane's terrible behavior?

When people started getting wise to Finger's contributions, back in 1965, Kane outright lied and claimed he was the sole creator of Batman. That's not morally ambiguous at all.

Then the guy waits until after Finger's dead to say "Yeah, he deserves credit"...and then,he still doesn't actually do anything to make sure he did.

Like Messiah said, there's no excuse.

Indeed. It sucks, don't get me wrong. But it's also somehow strangely fitting that the man who contributed a lot of the qualities we associate with Batman today has been in the shadows for so long. It's like the Harvey Dent lie in TDK Rises.
