Oh wow. What's their "purpose" for this? I would understand maybe on car services, like taxis, but every vehicle it's ridiculous. A violation of privacy.

Every car owner would have it removed as soon as possible.

We lost the whole constitutional thing a long time ago. It's really more of a suggestion than a rule now.

I know everyone is worried about their privacy rights and all that, and good for you, but I have one very dire concern.

If I should crash my car and die, someone somewhere might be able to retrieve the black box data and know that it happened while I was singing along to Alanis Morissette at the top of my lungs.

It's moments like these in the news that make me want to go back in time. Go back to a time where I could get away with more stuff. Not because I'd plan to, but just the thought of knowing I could is what counts.

I thought passenger vehicles already had a black box that monitored all your driving for insurance purposes.

A form of these has been in cars since 1974.

Also GM upgraded use in 1999.

Since GM is now owned by the government I can see it getting worse. I'm curious how functionality etc. will come into play since it's up to the states right now to carry out inspection and emission requirements
