Yeah this was bound to happen.

Black Widow has a much stronger lead actor, but Wonder Woman is the stronger overall film. Actually in some ways, I think BW is a better movie than WW but Black Widow doesn’t have a scene that rivals the No Man Land sequence so I have to give the slight nudge to WW.

Captain Marvel is the weakest of these three movies for me, but I think it has a more unique plot and I do think the third act subversion with the Skrulls is inspired and interesting - it’s just a shame it’s not enough to save the whole movie for me. Brie Larson is a much better actress than Gadot but she just doesn’t shine as Carol the same way Gadot does as Diana for me. I couldn’t have cared less for the character by the end whereas with Gal I was invested in her character by the time the credits rolled. That’s due in part to the great charm Gadot showed in the movie, I think she really embodied the role. Scarjo is fine in BW, but that movie is Florence Pugh’s through and through. Scarlett, I think, had better Marvel performances in other movies than her solo film.

So overall I think WW is the best of the three movies, but I think BW is a very close second.

Lmao I hate that this thread was inevitable. Easy answer for me:

Really dug Black Widow though, comfortably second.

Wonder Woman by a decent margin, Black Widow behind it and Captain Marvel last.

1st
Wonder Woman, somehow Gal manages to make Diana strong, independent and at the same time warm and likeable.
The rest of the cast are pretty one dimensional.

The best action sequences aren't at the end, but damn, No Man's land and liberating the village are exciting, well paced sequences that actually contain their own narrative and don't just feel like generic destruction. Can't say the same about the finale. Score for me 8/10.

2nd
Despite the praised lavished on Pugh, it is Scarjo who carries this film. The writers haven't got much experience with big budget action thrillers and it shows in the inconsistent tone and fight scenes that manage to be flashy but have zero tension.

However, it all hangs together because of Scarjo's performance - no matter how ridiculous the scene she makes it work.

Score for me 7/10.

3red Captain Marvel

The key to any superhero film is getting the audience to want to cheer for the hero. This film fails to achieve this in spectacular fashion.

A combination of writing which fails to understand the hero's journey and a dreadful performance by Brie Larson make her character almost unwatchable. At one point I found myself cheering for the Kree, and they were *******s.

The saving graces of this movie are the Skrulls and SLJ - although his character was more joke than spy.

Great effects, but it failed to excite.

Score for me 5/10.

Oh, this makes sense and explains the Person of Interest thread.

If you gave me one performance from the 3 movies, it would be Larson's followed closely by Pugh and Harbor's.

Yeah this was bound to happen.
Wow Lily. If you were going to make the sexist thread, you could have at least included all the recent options:

1. Birds of Prey: A genuine comfort flick for me. It's as fun as it is sweet, making it positively endearing. It's one misstep is the casting for Montoya imo.

2. Captain Marvel: Larson is amazing, as are SLJ and Krennic. My favorite aspect of this film is how it understands that it's character is a giant. While those in the movie might be trying to deny that, the movie never does. I am a sucker for a good Superman style flick, and this is one of those.

3. Wonder Woman: Patty's direction and the chemistry between the two leads make this one. I wish the bookends weren't there, and while I really enjoy the storytelling of the finale, the villain and visuals really let it down. Still, awesome.

4. Black Widow: An oddly paced flick, with a very poor villain imo. But I could hang out with the family all day. I need more Pugh, Harbour, and Weisz. They are perfect.

5. 1984: It's too long, and contains a lot of oddities. The script probably needed a couple of more passes to iron it out. But the core is strong, and Gadot is probably at her best as Diana so far here. I'm going to miss you best Chris.

6. Ant-Man and Wasp: Technically counts. So that is why it is one the list. Otherwise, one of the most bland of all recent superhero flicks. Which is quite the accomplishment.

I'm going to assume you're being mildly sarcastic, but this was about female solo films. Keep your man parts and Paul Rudd out of this. I may take BoP, but that's more of an ensemble.

I am never sarcastic. There are about 15 Black Widows in Black Widow, including the actual lead of the film, Florence Pugh. Also where's '84? :argh:

No Catwoman? Or Elektra? For shame.

I voted Black Widow. Pretty comfortable win for me. Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman are both fine but not particularly memorable.

1. Wonder Woman
2. Captain Marvel
3. Black Widow

Though because I like lists, to include those others above,

1. Wonder Woman
2. Birds of Prey
3. Captain Marvel
4. Wonder Woman 1984
5. Black Widow
6. Ant-Man and Wasp

For me, and they were all very strong movies, but I’d rank them like:

Captain Marvel as #1
Black Widow as #2
Wonder Woman in #3

Quite frankly I was more invested in the mystery of Carol Danvers since the post credit of Infinity War. Her story as well as Natasha’s past and their respective families left more of an impression on me than Diana’s. But WW was still a very well produced and crafted film.

Yeah should have added BoP and WW84 to this and given us a best female led CBM poll. Would share the votes out a bit more.

Black Widow was best for me. The family scenes and character work touched me the most.

"The only thing you care about is your stupid glory days as the Crismon Dynamo, and no one wants to hear about that."

Far too long of a pause later...

"It's the Red Guardian".

Wonder Woman is tops for me, followed by Captain Marvel, then Black Widow. Enjoyed all 3. AND BoP and WW84 while we're at it. Only one of the bunch being discussed here that I didn't particularly care for was Ant-Man & The Wasp.
Same. Those 5 all land in the, "really good time" category for me. Which seems like a pretty decent batting average to me. And yet for some reason each of those films seem to bring out very strong feelings from certain parts of the internet. :hmm

Wonder Woman is the best overall, but Black Widow is pretty close behind it. I was surprised honestly at how good it was; visually it was quite a bit stronger than several more recent MCU entries, with color grading in particular. Captain Marvel doesn't do much for me. There were a lot of cooks in the kitchen with its production and it showed. Carol Danvers has yet to rise above being a bland collection of cliches; I'm hoping future directors will bring out more of her personality and make her a more interesting character, like how Thor developed as the films progressed.

1.Black Widow
2.Wonder Woman
3.Captain Marvel

I didn't really care much for Wonder Woman. I know I'm an outlier but I think I found WW1984 more enjoyable overall.

I wanted to like Captain Marvel but I didn't. I think it is one of Marvel's most forgettable movies and Larson's performance was dull.

1. Wonder Woman
2. Black Widow
3. Captain Marvel
4. Elektra
5. Catwoman

I would have to go with Black Widow as it feels right now. Not a top tier superhero film but it was a positive surprise for me and it has the best character work and acting of the three.

WW feels like a mashup of The First Avenger and Thor, with some bad villains sprinkled on top, and Gadot is the least capable actress of the bunch. CM has a generally more capable actress in Larson but the character doesn't really show that much personality and I don't think the film fully nails any of its parts.
