BLM Protests Across The World

And away we go...

So, the correct answer that US law enforcement would like to hear is "No, I love fascism."

Seriously, wtf is a person even supposed to say to that?

Edit: Tell the FBI you have information about a major anti-fascist leader that operated in England, France, Russia and America. He killed fascists, destroyed and confiscated their property, cooperated with international fascist groups worldwide, and controlled a large military force. Then when the FBI goon asks for the guy's name lean forward and whisper..."Dwight Eisenhower, but his friends call him Ike."

:p

Obama just finished speaking and of course the difference between him and the other one is night and day. I feel like he’s the dad calming down his kid during a panic attack especially at the end when he said “Alright? I’m proud of you. I’m proud of you.”

Today's news was huge. Not entirely unexpected, but very welcome. I figured they were building their case and being smart. Too many times, prosecutions of cops have gone horribly wrong. They need this to be airtight. I want to be Keith Ellison when I grow up. Damn.

I feel like Obama said exactly what needed to be said. Which, amidst all the compassionate reaching out, was essentially "Keep the momentum going". While I believe protestors do care, there are those on the ground that treat this as an "adventure". It's not. It's hard, grueling, difficult and slow work, as several movement leaders have started talking about in the last few days.

Good for John Boyega and everyone who steps up to plan and deliver these messages. I don't know that Boyega's career would ever be in real danger from something like this, not in recent years. Maybe if he was a sports or country music star. But Hollywood loves its causes for the last decade or so.

Yes, the country needs leadership. But while it would be nice to see him do some good for once, it doesn't actually need leadership from ONE person, or even one administration/organization. If they are going to be useless, then they're going to be come irrelevant. We're seeing ordinary citizens (crap, shouldn't have said that on SHH) step up to become leaders on a daily basis, let alone celebrities and media personalities and politicians. And there's a fairly clear message, and that's heartening.

Random thought...look what happened since this horrific incident got videotaped. Think people would be for cameras in more places after this?

Nothing. Don't talk to cops.

I remember one time when I was going to visit my grandmother just across the street from MacArthur Park. I was driving an old van and got pulled over by the police. They told me to put my hands out of the window (It was a panel van), I complied, and the cop moved towards the front of the van and pointed a shotgun at my head. He said "I know what you're thinking. You're thinking you're going to be lucky to go to jail." I said. "No. I'm thinking I hope you don't sneeze." Evidently, someone had robbed some place and the description of the van was close enough. Not fun.....just think of how much bleaker your lives might be if he'd had a cold.

I love how every single one of them ticks a stereotype:

Problem now is convincing a jury, which will probably be partly conservative whites, that the cops are guilty. I dont think it will happen, but if they do get a guilty verdict then the problem is the judge giving them a light sentence. At most I expect those cops to get nothing more than a slap on the wrist, and theyll move somewhere else and some other municipal police force will hire them.

I once had a pretty serious relationship with an attorney who worked for a large, international union. She once told me (y'know, the old separation of powers) "why would you ever think the courts are divorced from politics?" I think there's a good chance there will be a conviction. The question then becomes "Who is the judge?" This isn't going to be decided tomorrow and elections are important.

I respect the hell out of John Boyega for being willing to risk it all for the cause.

Bigots are going to be coming for Boyega hard now. They were already trigger by Boyega's social media posts.

That was powerful! Respect John!!

I love the sentiment so much. But there is something slightly funny about the idea that Star Wars as an entity supports our boy fully. :D
