Box Office 2008: The Actual Numbers

Cool, thanks! I had always wondered how long a movie was given in terms of time range at the box office. I mean, flops are gone before you realize it. But Blockbusters seem to stick around. TAC said he thought it was 10-15 weeks if it was a really high grossing blockbuster.

It's up to WB and the theater owners. If the owners still see some life in the movie , they'll allow it to play as long as WB lets it.
The last MEGA-blockbuster was POTC 2.

So i think we could see TDK playing till december, just not on so many screens.
POTC hit 400 million in it's 7th weekend of release. AFterwards it took 15 weeks to collect 23 million.
TDK will most likely hit 500 million this weekend . If it follows the trend of POTC , it'll probably end up with 30-35 million dollars more at the end of it's run
 
The Dark Knight has at least become the biggest superhero movie of all time, even when you adjust for inflation or count ticket sales. Before this weekend TDK has sold an estimated 69,7 million tickets. The previous record for superhero movies was 69,5 million tickets for Spider-Man.

It won't play until December...maybe November with the value cinemas. It will be gone by the time Bond hits and we will get TDK dvd in time for Christmas.

A couple of weeks ago, I would have agreed with you. But now that "Harry Potter" was moved back to next year, "The Dark Knight" now has a bit longer to stay in theaters, specifically IMAX. And anyway, if "Pirates 2" stayed in theaters until December, then "The Dark Knight" sure as hell could.

With Bond, Twilight, Burn After Reading, Saw, Zack and Miri, and a myriad of other lame movies come out, TDK will be phased out of theatres well before October and into value cinemas where it won't make much more.
