Bare knuckle boxing seems to be in the news around the world at the moment.

It got me thinking, about the cultural aspects of it. I am part gypsy traveller and I have witnessed and been involved in a few bouts as has my father and brother. We have never lived on a site, so in that sense we do not adhere to our culture. Both my Brother and I have A levels and I have a post grad. degree. I do not wear a Balanser (sovereign) ring!

That said, fighting is part of our way of life and I enjoy watching it.

These two chavvies (used in the Gypsy way to mean boys) show how ingrained in our culture it is.

I will be teaching my son how to box when he is older and I hope he goes to a boxing gym.

Do other forum members find bare knuckle boxing and boxing disgusting or not!

The men with the gloves still hurt each other pretty badly.

Boxing rules. I love watching fights. It's odd, because I'm not a violent person and haven't been in many fights, though I do have a bit of a temper and have started a fight once.

Ya can't say much bad about boxing. Both parties are willing, so why not let them go at it?

The only thing about bare knuckle boxing is, and I've watched a few vids, is you need organization. If you don't have organization, one guy might go too far, or his friends might join in. I think it's extremely cowardly to jump into a fight that's clearly just one on one, just let them settle it by themselves! And too many times, I've watched vids of street fights where a guy talks all tough with his pals around, but yet won't punch the guy face to face. He waits for the guy to turn his back to sucker punch him. One of the worst things is when a friend decides to jump in and punches someone from behind. The kind of people I've described are just pure scum, in my opinion.

But if everyone knows whats what, if both guys know when to stop or have friends that will break it up when it goes too far, it's all good.

Let's post some damn street fighting/bare knuckle boxing vids.

gloves make it easier to knock someone out I'm sure, while bareknuckes probably increase the chances of splitting the eybrow and getting blood in the eye which can blind you.

People should only fight in self defense, and in self defense any advantage whether it be a friend jumping in or a weapon is fair game. If your fighting to prove you can take somebody or for the sake of hurting them and you cheat than your just a worthless human being.

I agree with your last statement, anyone that just fights because they enjoy hurting people are pure scum. I can't stand people that start fights for no reason at all.

You say self defense is the only reason to fight. But what about honour? What about sticking up for a friend? I said in my previous post I started a fight once. I'll explain what happened. I was out in a club having a good time with friends. It was my pal David's birthday. He's gay and it's sort of obvious from his clothes and dancing. Some ******* punched David in the balls while he was on the dancefloor. Maybe the guy did it for no reason, maybe he didn't like the way David danced, no idea. But David was in agony for ages and we had no idea what was wrong with him, it was only an hour or so later he explained what happened. I asked him to point the guy out and he did. I asked him if he was sure it wasn't accident or anything, and he said definately, and he even demonstrated what had happened and he was 100% sure that it was on purpose and was meant to be as painful as the guy could make it.

So I approach the guy while he's on the dancefloor dive for him, I knocked him to the ground and got on top of him. I didn't hit him while he was down, I just yelled at him. So really, I'm not very violent. And I made sure he was facing me aswell when I approached him, I don't believe in hitting someone from behind.

I have no regrets about it at all. Why should I? I believe there are things other than self defense that are worth fighting about.

And if two people want to fight each other, say for money or in something, who are we to tell them they can't? Let them just suffer the consequences.

oh yeah I got no beef against UFC fighters or boxers. that's a sport, and that is honorable. those guys aren't trying to make it so the other guy can never fight again. a lot of times they even help train each other. It's completely different from street fighting.

I understand why you attacked the guy, but wouldn't it had been better to call the police? That's recognized by the law as a hate crime. The guy would go to jail, and receive rehabillitation, and he'd actually learn that violence makes life complicated. Your way wont really deter him from doing it to somebody else later down the road. He's probably got his own problems whether it be prejudice or maybe he's insecure with his own sexuality.

Calling the police might have fixed whatever was wrong with that guy's head, and not put yourself or nearby bar hoppers in danger. What if he would have pulled a knife? You or anybody standing there could have gotten hurt, and that wouldn't help anything. Not to mention, you put yourself and your gay friend in a position to get in trouble with the law, because it was no longer self defense, it was now regular fighting, and your friend would be party to a crime.

what you did most likely just causd him and his friends later to ***** about gays, and helped reinforce what they already believed. It just makes them more angry and hateful. If he was in jail in that cell he'd be thinking "what I did was wrong"

There's pickup company in England called BareKnuckle Pickups.
