Brad Pitt to Tackle Cogan's Trade

Ouch, damn. :(

Box Office Report: Brad Pitt's 'Killing Them Softly' Flops With Viewers

Brad Pitt's Killing Them Softly opened nationwide to a soft $2.5 million, coming in No. 6 and earning an F CinemaScore.

Directed by Andrew Dominik, the violent crime drama becomes only the eighth movie in history to receive the failing grade, and the third this year after horror pics The Devil Inside and Silent House.

Killing Them Softly will likely open to $7 million, a disappointing number even though the movie cost only $15 million to produce.

Also, if you're wondering what the other seven films to recieve a CinemaScore of F are (and I know you are), they are -

Solaris(2002)
Bug (2006)
Wolf Creek (2005)
Darkness (2002)
The Box (2009)
The Devil Inside (2012)
Silent House (2012)

i have a feeling that people were expecting a balls to wall crime thriller but got a more introspective piece.

I havent seen this yet but thats what Im guessing

I really liked the film but can see why general audiences wouldn't like it as it's definitely more introspective and uncomfortably violent at times. The pacing isn't for everyone but an F? In the same league as The Box and all sorts of crappy horror movies? The performances alone should've bumped it up a notch at least

This kind of had a Drive effect on my friends and I assume the general audience. I loved it. Killing Them Softly is one of my favorites of the year. Brad Pitt is amazing in it. It's not what people expect though. It's not a crazy crime thriller. It's a bit of a slow-burn and definitely a character piece. If you go into it knowing that, it's easier to enjoy it IMO.

I see what you're saying but I disagree about the Drive comparison. Drive is not for everyone but it has a passionate and vocal following. There are even cosplayers dressed as Driver ar convetions so that film has left a mark on geek culture. And I've met coworkers who surprisingly loved it, which shocked me.

That's true. I don't know why Killing Them Softly bombed as bad as it did. I thought it was great. I've been tempted to go again.

saw the movie a week ago. it just might be my dominik nerdery at play but i find it to be a great film. there were times when my attention lagged off a bit and found some of the scenes that had politicians booming from the radio to be heavy-handed. it wasn't off-putting to me though.

and to jackie cogan's closing monologue

I agree about the closing monologue. I also really like what when on with Gandolfini's character. He didn't have much consequence within the plot, but his character was pretty rich.

I wish this would hurry up and come to Blu Ray. I want to watch this again.

I havent seen the horror movies (maybe wolf creek) , but its in good company with Solaris or Bug. Both great movies. Like Killing Them Soflty. A fantastic achievement.

I tried to watch this tonight and gave up after 35 minutes of mind numbing drivel. I think I could have liked Pitt's character in another movie though.

^i should of listened to you this movie sorry to say was pretty terrible:csad:

the film moves like a damn snail and makes the film feel twice as long when it is only 97 minutes long lol

and honestly the script for this movie was just bad the film was just uninteresting and the film never got out of first gear

and the political allegory was as subtle as a michael bay film:doh:
