Basically, CA consumers are filing a class action lawsuit against Micorsoft stating that they knew the 360 was faulty when they shipped it in Nov 2005 but concealed it to better compete with the Wii and PS3 launches. If they win, MS will have to return all the profits they've made from the system over the past 3 years and offer a state-wide refund.

Extending the warranties to cover all repair costs for the 360 has cost MS $1.15 billion.

Yeah, like this is going to work. They extended the warranty, and have been repairing them for free. Even if they somehow win, all that will change is all people involved in the case will recieve a check from MS for about $5.

This reminds me of the time last yr when ppl sued because Xbox Live went down. I think this has slightly more holding but is still just a giant big waste of our time and a giant waste of the use of our court system.

So they were faulty and gamers had to find something else to do other than sit down in front of the tv, OMG, the world is gonna end. Lawsuits like these are a joke and one of the reasons why i hate America.

funny how this news breaks the same night as my xbox.

goodbye paycheck

If it's less than 3 years old, which I'm sure it is, you won't have to spend any money on the repairs.

i bought it on ebay used. i don't think there is any provision that covers me.

guy said he can fix it though for like $50 total

Sure there is, as long as the system is not more than 3 yrs old, its covered under the warranty.

Good for those gamers, M$ deserves what's coming to them. My first elite got the RRoD and within 3 weeks of receiving a refurbished elite I got the RRoD again. I'm on my 3rd Elite now and if this **** keeps up, I'm gonna ****ing lose it.

as long as the seal under the removable front face plate is not broken or ripped than the warranty is still good. oh but it has be within the 3 years, most of the ones that came out at launch have expired warranties the day before or the day after the New Xbox Experience update.

Oh great. I waited for the elite because I figured the problems would be fixed by now. I was hoping I wouldn't have to worry about the RRoD.

Does MS need the original receipt for repairs? I think my wife through mine out...so if this happens to me, I might be screwed.

On another note, my cousin has a 40gb PS3 and said it stopped working.

If you get the red ring of death I believe Microsoft will fix it for free no matter what as long as they tab on the inside isn't broken. :woot:

No you don't need a receipt. With the elite, you shouldn't have to worry as much as you would had you of bought one of the older models. The elite is the least likely to red ring.

as an Elite has the SAME internal components as the Pro or Arcade, the Elite is just as likely to get the RROD as a non Elite model. true the current 360s that have the "Falcon" motherboard, which have a 175 instead of 205w power supply and they all have the HDMI jack are LESS likely to get the RROD as the older consoles and the launch ones from 2005. there is a new batch of 360s coming in late spring/early summer of 09 called the "Jasper" which have an even more efficient power supply rated at 150w and it is supposed to be the version that will have virtually NO RROD......in theory :whatever:.

No, i was referring to the models prior to the elites release, which did NOT have the same internal components. If you waited for an elite, then your model was less likely to red ring vs those who bought their consoles prior to the elites release.

It doesnt matter tho, the RRoD is a non issue, at most ull be w/out a console for a few weeks and if you cant go w/out a console for that amount of time, you have bigger problems than a broken console.

you sir, are right, the early elites were the 1st consoles to get the FALCON main board and they were less likely to get the RROD than the Core (later Arcade, and the Premium (later the Pro).
