Hollywood has gone completely insane. Not content with remaking movies or rebooting entire franchises they have decided it is time to start rebooting dead, defunct studios from the 1970's-80's.

Cannon Films, the iconic independent film studio of the 1970s and 1980s which essentially continued the careers of the likes of Charles Bronson and Chuck Norris through and after their prime, are back - more than twenty years after shutting their doors.

Responsible for the likes of "Masters of the Universe," "Cyborg," "Breakin'," "Cobra," "Lifeforce," "Invasion U.S.A.," "American Ninja," "Death Wish II," and "Bloodsport," the studio is now back with a new slate of movies is on the horizon.

Formed under the new hand of Richard Albiston, Cannon Films Ltd. was established in 2014 and is moving forward with the ideals of former chairman Menahem Golan about putting the artist first. Today comes word of eight films which mark their inaugral slate - "America Ninja Apprentice," "Return of The Delta Force," "U.S. Sniper," "Allan Quatermain and the Jewel of the East," "Curse," "Zombi: They Live," "Writer's Block" and "The Leopard Hunts at Midnight".
Dark Horizons

lol at these movies! I grew up on most of them, never a big fan of the Bronson flicks.

Cyborg is so underrated.

What about Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo?

I loved Cyborg and the sequel. The sequel's sequel not so much and I'm pretty sure there was a fourth movie best left uncanonized.

The Delta Force and American Ninja franchises were fun if absurd. And Cobra, Lifeforce, Invasion U.S.A. and Masters of the Universe are underrated too IMO. None of their movies were great but a few were good and most of them were at least worth watching once.

The studio practically invented Jean Claude VanDamme's career

Kickboxer was awesome

Cannon was also going to make a Spider-man movie!

If I'm reading that copyright correctly, that was in 1985. I imagine given Cannon's reputation his spider-webbing would have been silly-string. :funny:

Thanks a bunch, The Asylum.

a lot of those are cult classics, and doing them up big budget kind of takes away from it. Allan Quatermain would work though.

With Michael j fox as Peter Parker ?

This is going to lead to some hilarious films I imagine.

We already have Millenium films as the new Cannon, but hope these guys will have good funding to get some awesome movies out there.

That was mostly the bros Golan - Globus who were responsible for the 1980s B-action fares headlining Broson, Norris etc. lol

But they did some interesting things like a period piece Lady Chatterley's Lover, and a sci-fi Lifeforce.

So glad they're back. Finally they can make the perfect Captain America Winter Soldier movie.

They rebooted Hammer Studios so no reason they can't reboot Cannon.

I wonder if there is still a big enough audience for kitsch B movies though.

If they can follow the blumhouse productions business model then they could be very successful.
