Captain America Fan Film

Excellent film. I really liked the writing and performances. Bob and his daughter were especially good. The heroes looked great in costume (No Sub-Mariiner?).

The only thing I would critique was that when Cap and Bob met there were alot of feelings I'd imagine both would have that weren't displayed. For example, we all know how tortured Cap was over Bucky's death, but that seemed to be missing here. I would think that if those feelings would be expressed with anyone, it would be with Bob. And, since Bob also withheld everything about his war service from his family, I'd think that would all unload with Steve. I also would think there might be more shock on Bob's part over Steve's condition (Like maybe it would take a more before he really recognized Steve, then he be really stunned at the realization), but then, I guess since they've both seen some strange things in their lives he might not be that overwhelmed. But.. still, overall it was a terrific bit of work.

Hey, thanks for viewing and thanks for the feedback. As I've said at other boards, I did have a Sub-Mariner costume and makeup all set but I just could'nt find an actor to pull it off. That's a tall order to fill. If I do a "behind the scenes/making of" type of project, I'll talk about all the things I wanted to do but due to budget (or rather lack there of) just could'nt pull off. Anyway, Thanks again.

That's excellent. Good acting and story. The costumes were great. Fantastic job.

That's great stuff. The acting and writing was phenomenal. The only 'gripe' I have, is the way it was shot. Not that it was bad, but you know, some more close-up/reaction shots here and there might have accentuated the character's emotions a bit more.

But still, awesome job. These are just little nitpicks that would make an already great film just a little bit better.

Great work, really enjoyed watching it. well done.

Great fan film! One of the best Marvel based fan films I've ever seen.

Any chance you could post some pics from the film? Maybe some of the heroes?

I'd love to add them to my Yahoo group.{See sig}:yay:

Excellent fan film overall. I love that you tackled a subject of this nature, very brave of you to have zero superheroes until the last few minutes (well, I mean superheroes who were doing using their powers or fighting or anything). As much as I like that you made it a character study (which is significantly rare in fan films), I thought that the film overall could've been a bit leaner, especially cutting out the dialogue scenes between the husband and the wife. It's obvious that the film is about Bob and it just took away from his story to focus a larger portion than necessary of the film about his daughter. Also, this is the fanboy speaking, but since you made costumes for the entire All Winners Squad and several villains I was a bit disappointed to only see them used for stills and a handful of close-ups. A flashback to a World War II battle would've made my day, but I could understand how that might be hard due to the effects and scale (but I would've gone for just punching a Nazi in the face :oldrazz:).

Great work on everything else though. While extensive uses of stills and stock footage is often a cop-out on the filmmaker's part to save a few bucks, you actually used it very effectively in your film. The acting was also generally excellent for a fan production, and I also appreciated your conservative use of music throughout the film.

So, the short version: great job on making an excellent and unique fan work!

Just wanted to thank you all for the kind words. Sorry it took so long to reply but I posted on so many sites that I forgot to check in on this one. My goal in making ALLIES was to not just make a fan film but to make an actual film that could appeal to an audience other than just comic fans. I've gotten so much positive response from people all over the country and even some in Canada. Some of whom had fathers that served in WWII and were extremely touched by the main character Bob. Because of budgetary reasons (or rather lack of budget) I knew I could'nt pull off an action film, which is why I went with the present day, character driven piece. This was a great learning experience and although it was alot of hard work accompanied by equal amounts of frustration. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the process. From writing and casting, to building sets and props, to editing, and scoring the music. I highly recomend that anyone that has the passion to want to make their own film to not listen to the naysayers and just go ahead and make it. You'll want to pull your hair out and throw your hands up and quit more often than not, but if you persevere you'll be so glad you stuck it out and finished it. Thanks again for taking the time to watch ALLIES and for posting such kind words..
