World Captain America mini series and ongoing questions

I've become a huge Captain America fan and I would really like to get into the comics

Can you guys recommend any good mini-series to check out?
Are there any current mini-series?

What is the main ongoing series like and how many different ones are there?
(theres like 50 of the Avengers right now)

My last question is what exactly do the "Volumes" mean? Is it the main series starting over each time or what?
