Car filled with explosive material found in middle of Times Square

Freaky stuff.

So it's been confirmed it was a bomb? I know it was going back and forth for awhile as to what it was actually.

I'm glad they got to it in time. Oh well, it's not like terrorists ever try to blow up some insignificant burg in the middle of the country.

Dammit, can we not blow up Times Square when one of my friends is visiting for the first time in ages and we're supposed to see some shows this week? :argh:

Someone pointed out on another forum - the place where the car was left was right near the MTV/Viacom building...Viacom owns Comedy Central...this may be related to that whole South Park thing a few weeks ago.

Whatever it was, it's going to be a fun working in the city this week.

I just don't get why people can't let it go... Bomb bomb bomb. It solves nothing.

This guy was behind it.

Terrorists are nothing but big attention ****es.

I've been to times square several times, its such a cool area, especially during the night. With all the bright lights, its like daytime
then seeing the streets practically empty on tv, was rather creepy. Its something out of a movie :wow:
Thankfully it failed to go off. Now its times to catch the bastards.
Call Bruce Willis!

Some Pakistani Taliban group is claiming responsibility for it.

And...really?

"Part of a Marriott hotel was evacuated for hours, unnerving thousands of tourists attending Broadway show, museums and other city sights.

Melissa Williams and Crysta Salinas returned from a visit to a King Tut exhibit near Times Square to find themselves out of their hotel room until 2 a.m. They sat in a deli until they could get into their room.

"No more New York," said Salinas, 28, from Houston.

"We went to two Broadway shows, we went to the museum, we did everything we wanted to do this time, so we're not going to do this again," said Williams, 56, from Houston."

OK...I work in NYC. I was in the city on 9/11. I've been in the city nearly every day since. I'm right back to work to my job in the city tomorrow (which is btw, a block away from the Empire State Building)...AND I'm seeing at least one Broadway show with a friend this week, so I'll definitely be in Times Square.

But because they needed to hang out in a deli until late at night they're never coming back? Wimps. :whatever:

Hell, they didn't even close the Broadway shows on that street last night. And they're all running today.

I really don't like that it was a 40 year olf white man.

I am really worried that this was a Tea Party member trying to frame terrorists, so that Obama would look bad, & if this is the case, the Repubs better get there asses to a podium right after denouncing them.

I really hope I am wrong.

Looks like a Tim McVeigh/ Eric Rudolph type is behind it, given the information at this time. Whoever made the bomb (thankfully) didn't know how to properly make one, and didn't martyr themselves to make sure it detonated.

Used to live in Brooklyn and news like this really upset me. I hope they will be able to catch the bastard, although that surveilliance video doesn't really tell you much of his identity.

Domestic terrorist types are probably the most dangerous ones since they can blend in easier and speak english a lot better. I think the anti-government militias and eco-terrorist groups like the ALF and the ELF are more dangerous to America than the muslim terrorist groups because of those reasons above.

Two failed Terrorist Attacks in the US in Six Months.

Thank god I live in Canada

The god damn moron couldn't even make a proper bomb. What terrorist group wants to be associated with this epic fail? If he actually executed it, would have just turned the SUV into a flaming turd ball, put down faster than Canada's economy once their housing bubble pops. :woot:

Not a shock. This isn't going to be the last, I'm sure. These people are relentless.

More like high level haters to me, terrorists are the biggest haters of the decade.

A majority of their mindsets are "oh, they think they're better than us; we'll show them".
